[SPEC] Ceretin

I usually don't like specs, but I've got a pretty good idea about what Ceretin is. I don't think this as been posted yet.

I noticed the ads on www.perplexcitysentinel.com reminded me of drug ads. One with the caption "faster, sharper and more alert. Learn about CERETIN can do for you."

Ceretin sounds just like a cheesy marketing name given to a drug like Claritin, except the prefix, cere like cerebrum and ceretonin, has to do with the brain.

Based on the article about doping in the sports section, and this ad, CERETIN seems to be some kind of cognitive enhancer.

This is my first real post. I hope that it is relavant and helpful.

good post, I was wondering why noone commented about the drug yet, and I was about to Smile

first thing that came to my mind, the way it's being advertised, just by style, made me think of Viagra Laughing but I'm sure they wouldn't advertise spam like that on a news site Smile methinks your idea is much more feasible
hehe

There is a link to some information on the effects of Adderall

actually, especially since we know that their sports are mind games, i think that its a "shadow" (that is, a reflection in their world of something in ours) of creatine. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/creatine.html
for those not wanting to slag through, its a powder that is a version of the near top level energy source used by the muscles. it allows you to work at exercising harder and longer between rests. so ceretin would probably be a form of one of the energy sources used exclusively by the brain, probably a neurotransmitter or two to help the uptake and burn thereof. probably an o2 source as well, since the brain burning more would suck up more oxygen, and getting more o2 to the brain isnt that easy. and yeah, its a drug add. we have that, and the bank (which is a real bank by the way, pacific something bank corp) which has a slogan set thats mimicking washington mutual a bunch. but... these ads dont click... no link to a website. there should be. however, as ceretin.com has been registered through godaddy (as the others were) and probably by the team, based on date, expect there to be a working ad link shortly. i think that when we get full in, theres going to be an amazing amount of content that will never be used in game.

I was thinking ceratin sounds like serotonin, which dictionary.com defines as

Quote:
An organic compound, C10H12N2O, formed from tryptophan and found in animal and human tissue, especially the brain, blood serum, and gastric mucous membranes, and active as a neurotransmitter and in vasoconstriction, stimulation of the smooth muscles, and regulation of cyclic body processes.

Sounds like the kind of thing that might help you "stay sharp", no?

So, it's likely one of those cognition enhancers. I'd guess that either its a low-powered legal enhancer, or its legal for the general populace, but competitors in the brain games (mentaletes?) swear not to use it or analogues.

(Adderall is basically speed, hence the strict government regulation. Razz)

The Ceretin ads seem placed to help immerse us in the PPC world, where everything is cerebralyl and cognitively, etc., based. In that case, it seems like this is some kind of enhancer.

I personally like the ad with the ball of...what are those, nails? that says, "Stay sharp".

I'm getting that vibe too...
I'm starting to feel that documenting every single thing and, say, the histories of every person/name in the PPC world might be a waste of time... but rather that if there's a murder mystery, information may be found throughout the history and biographies we've been given to help solve it, instead of every piece of the information somehow relating to the plot directly...

kind of like the different between linear RPGs and the open world concept of RPGs... the latter gives a much richer, more believable world to explore, but also makes furthering the plot potentially much more difficult and engaging... I'm feeling the latter is most likely what we'll be finding in PPC.

ILB was quite linear. PPC quite opposite. Smile

I agree, Adderall might have been taking it a little too far.

I do like that ad too. Razz

thebruce, ditto. i was having the same thoughts, the ones weve played before are final fantasy or dragon warrior. this is daggerfall. if they do it right, there will be ways for people to get involved in aspects of pc that have nothing to do with the cube. become a source for non academy historians wanting info on earth, double agents, all kinds of fun things. im also thinking a video game , perhaps even an mmorpg where people connect with their opposite would freaking rock. or at least some graphic novels

I think spec-ing and analyzing every small detail is a waste. Very Happy But I'm glad for the wiki.

Because, really...isn't the murder solution always some thing where you have to remember who was connected to whom, and through which person? And after that, you have to make an educated guess about how they're connected to someone else, which is never actually mentioned in the text, but which explains why they 'dunit'?

I love Sherlock Holmes, but I can't even aspire to be that good at solves. Wink

The ad reminds of the stuff that gets inserted into news articles here for things like Gingko Biloba and other memory and mind enhancers. I don't think it's anything like adderall, or anything else that would need a prescription.

Gratuitous Speccing

I agree that it is easy to get lost in over analyzing, but given the predominance of the advertisements of Ceretin on the site, I have a pretty good hunch that it will play some future puzzle role in the game, rather than simply to add back story.

I think researching Aderol and Creatin are a bit much, but it still could be important to understand that Ceretin is a drug, and it is aggressively marketed as a cerebral enhancer.

This is my last word on this matter, until, as the Dude so elequently put it, new sh*t has come to light.
