[META] Regional Threads Proliferation

We're getting lots of requests for regional threads. This could get out of control, so I'll ask those of you considering it to tell us why you need one.

I just had a request from someone who said "there are four of us" and didn't tell me how many axons they have to deal with. My reaction is if there is only 4 of you, email each other -- you don't need this forum to communicate the details. Someone post the results here. Invite other locals from UF to join you; get emails from anyone else who shows up at the location. Trade cell numbers.

I started the regional axons for my own selfish purposes because we had 16 axons in downtown DC alone plus 6 close in northern Virginia. That would have been impossible to manage with a bunch of reluctant axon hunters who did the same thing the week before. Even 8 or 10 in a region where anyone local could get to the axon certainly merits a regional thread, but 5 across a state (unless it's Rhode Island) probably doesn't cut it.

So prepare your requests accordingly.

Just my .02. Maybe another mod will be more sympathetic. Maybe we'll start multi-state regions to narrow the focus of chat without getting into 50-thread-territory.

I'm locking this; no need to chat; act accordingly.

Now to get a little proactive. No one has asked, but -

Given the preponderance of Colorado axons on the "not hot yet" list, I'm wondering if there isn't some value in offering Colorado members a regional thread. Would that help? I recognize that many of these are not all that close, but I'd like to encourage the community there to communicate a bit if it will help.

Of course you guys may already be talking outside these forums, but I thought I'd offer.

Any Coloradans interested?

Regional threads - do me a favor. Someone from each try to post a summary of your news in the main thread for the week (i.e. recipe4.html this week) - doesn't need to be the painful details, but a recap in a couple sentences of axons gotten and live calls handled. Let's try to get a summary in the main thread of what all the axon hunters accomplished on that page.
