[Halo meta] The Library (Great Halo Universe Resource)

I searched the forums to see if this was mentioned before. I haven't seen it, so I'm posting here.

The Halo Library site at

http://library.psyjnir.net/

is a great resource site that documents the people, places, history, battles, ships, weaponry and more of the Halo/Bungie Universe; accumulated from the two Halo games, the Halo books, and other published sources.

A few interesting things from that site:

HighCom Facility Bravo-6

from http://library.psyjnir.net/?id=293

Quote:
The UNSC High Command has a base located located in Sydney Australia. Below the HighCom Bravo-6 Facility is another massive facility called "The Hive". It is three-kilometers below the surface and reinforced with massive blast plating, anti-EMP armor, and three-
kilometers of solid rock.

Bumblebee Lifepod

from http://library.psyjnir.net/?id=151

Quote:
UNSC starships are always equipped with a full supply of lifepod for emergencies. If or when a ship is required to self-destruct, the crew abandons the ship in lifepods so that the crew isn't destroyed along with the ship. These small spacecraft can sustain up to 10 people each for nearly a week before it runs out of provisions and a clean air supply.

1st Lieutenant Melissa McKay

from http://library.psyjnir.net/?id=225

(interesting because a Melissa is mentioned in the latest URL-based story)

Quote:
An ODST who made the jump from the Pillar of Autumn to the surface of Halo. She was second in command to Major Silva, and helped secure the Pillar of Autumn's crash site. She was instrumental in retrieving supplies for the UNSC survivors from what was left of the ship.

McKay disobeyed Major Silva's direct orders and overloaded the Truth and Reconciliation's fusion generators to keep the Flood from escaping Halo. her actions not only cost her, and a few hundred marines their lives, but it stopped the Flood from killing thousands, if not millions, of innocent people throughout the galaxy.

Interesting to see some Bee/Hive references in existing Universe terminology.

The Library entry on Cortana

This entry is also quite interesting:

Cortana

from http://library.psyjnir.net/?id=215

Quote:

Cortana was created by Dr. Catherine Halsey, and has taken the physical appearance of her creator, though with lines of code flowing through her "skin". Her older "sister", Kalmyia, was the first template for much of Cortana's advanced infilitration and neural programs. Dr. Halsey created Cortana to be the perfect intelligent infilitration AI. She can hack into nearly any system and can even make smaller sub-copies of herself to double for her in emergencies. She provided the Master Chief with much intel on Covenant movements and battle transmissions during the Halo campaign. Since she can be directly linked with the MJOLNIR Mark V armor, she can even upload NAV points to the Master Chief's visor. She also helped stop the Chief from accidentally activating Halo's weapon when 343 Guilty Spark tried to mislead him into firing it.

From the line about infiltration, hacking, and sub-copies - Cortana sounds alot like the AI from the "inner monologue" text on ilovebees.com

(BTW, I'm having to post as guest b/c registration for unfiction.com seems to be broken presently)

EDIT: Moved to Quick Reference - SG

I think that the entry on Flood brain form is interesting.
It says that the Flood Brain Form can interact with computers.
THe creepy "survive evolve etc." text on ilovebees semas like the thoughts you would get from the rudimentary intelligence of a parasitic life form liek the Flood.

The site has been down for the past two weeks. Dunno why. But the thing you have to remember with the Flood is that they aren't basic. They are as smart as their hosts are.

In an interesting bit of cross-pollination (ha-ha), I just saw on halo.bungie.org that the Halo Library has been updated with stuff from ILB. Not sure about everythign that has been updated, but I did notice there are new entries for Troy and the good ship Apocalypso.

One entry of importance:
The Halo Library wrote:
Harmony
Description:
Another of the Inner Colonies that have fallen to the Covenant.

I don't know if this is an official source though. One possible update of minor importance about Jericho VII:
The Halo Library wrote:
It was also the sole producer of Alt Burgandy, a delicacy amung alcoholic drinks. It is now very rare.

Something I should mention...

http://library.psyjnir.net/?id=16

Quote:
The only known weakness of a combat form is its sensory feelers that normally develope in the upper chest region. This is where the infection form has nestled, and once destroyed, the body is incapacitated.

That's not entirely true. In Halo 2, I've noticed that infection forms often re-infect a felled combat form. The body twitches while the parasite integrates itself, and then it's back on its feet and in your face.

Hmmm.... I find it interesting that they have a file on Melissa/Durga/(slight bit about)Yasmine/Queen/Princess, yet no Rani, Standish or Hertzog. Also, this goes to my argument that Durga owns Cortana in the character catagory. Look how much more she has compared to Cortana. Honestly. No contest. Maybe they'll add in some info on the Axon Crew, or at least the military ones like Standish, Rani, and Hertzog. Any way to contact these people to submit some info about them?

Actually it happens in Halo 1 as well... a lot of the time if you don't fully kill a flood, it will get back up after you pass over it and start attacking again... usually just one more good hit will kill it, but the flood have always been a 'make sure it's really dead' kind of enemy...

In Halo 1 it just sort of happens. They die once, and then sometimes come back to life. I usually just went ahead and shot off their claw arm once they were dead, so that if they did come back, they'd be an easy kill. In 2, you actually SEE the little flood thingy hop over to the carcass and re-infect it. I started getting in the habit of blowing up as many corpses as possible in certain areas, because I'd get two or three re-animated dudes trying to kill me, and it was seriously annoying.

Yep! But unlike multiplayer, the swords have limited battery, which means, it runs out pretty fast when you have 2345347 flood soldiers to kill!

Yeah, I can always manage the first 2345246 flood, but that last one always kills me. Such a pain.

I thought the reactor overload and subsequent explosion was the handywork of the master chief... Am I wrong?
