Oh yes, hinoai, I remember our translation fun back to 2007-08.
This was so thrilling to refresh that Kadokawa Website longing for new chapter! (^-^)b

Btw I bought Cloverfield novelization in Japan. It wasn't translated into English AFAIK.

I found Tagruato and Slusho in there, but not so many other ARG stuff. Ah, and also this:

https://youtu.be/w5cYX-dnXL0

They made pretty many cool Japanese contents for Cloverfield

Yesssss!!! I had that novel too, though I got rid of it when I moved back to the states. I am kind of regretting it now. I'll have to pick that and the manga up in a used book shop when I go to visit. There was so much extra story available for Japanese audiences, maybe to make up for the fact that the ARG was mostly in English.

PS: I saw that someone on R made Slusho shirts and is selling them here: https://www.teepublic.com/show/426474-slusho?utm_source=designer%20&utm_medium=social%20&utm_campaign=Sloanesstuff

Not made by me, and sure, it's dubious copyright, but I didn't order one the first time around and so regret it. Someone else here might feel the same. I ordered one last night in navy blue. Wink

Oh yes, it was very generous gesture, especially while Japanese contemporary culture was the actual inspiration for Cloverfield.

I can also remember they had something like online social networking ticket game using twitter, where your could tweet with a special hash and your userpic would appear in the virtual cinema hall. They made a lot for Japan indeed...

In Russia they made an account in VK (Russian clone of Facebook) of a character named "Polekleverov" (translation of "Cloverfield"), but it was not so really viral or transmedial.

In Germany there was just a Cloverfield cinema stand with a hidden videostream inside.

Man, if I recall, they did a lot for international auditory.

P.S. And Slusho hoodie was what I've bought from Slusho shop (closed for now).

I wonder what's going on, if anything, internationally for 10CL. It was only announced a month and some ago; if it wasn't for the Super Bowl ad, I'd think that the studio didjt care too much about it.

I very hope they will. Sure, Cloverfield had much more time for rolling up. But Bad Robot knows about its international audience.

Yeah, I'm just one country over here and we got pretty much nothing. It's not even playing in IMAX here, according to the IMAX website. IMAX itself being a Canadian company, that's uh... odd.

It seems to be a very US focused launch. Can't even order myself a swamp pop Sad

Feel kinda crappy telling people what to do all the time, but there's basically been none of the IRL stuff I can participate in, so I have to do it vicariously.

I mean, it's fine though, as a Canadian I'm used to it.

And, I think I remember I couldn't order from Slush-O either. Which, as I recall, is why I lost interest in the old ARG. Didn't have the time or the resources back then, and that annoyed me enough my interest dwindled.

Oh yes, I can tell tales about being non-US-resident in Bad Robot ARGs...

The best one was that Super8 Comic contest, where I actually get the first prize (HD cam and Super8 BluRay with autograms by JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg). But... I hid the fact I weren't US resident. So as I had to fill out the confirmation papers with tax number, I had to tell Paramounts, I have one, but it's German, not American. So they said: "Oh, wait, sorry, we cannot do anything for you". And I've got nothing. Weird part of the story was, the Super8 comic contest was kinda crushed. No winners at their homepage. No prizes send (even inside US). I had a feeling, I'd hijacked their contest and now everybody were confused and disoriented so they screwed up the whole contest... I know, customs duties, but hey, they sent me that huuuge Star Trek package with Trekkies treasures, which weren't necessarily cheap to ship...

Shipping, man. Trying right now to buy something for my kid off ebay that I cannot find here that's only 5 dollars, and I'm gonna have to ship it to a friend in the US so I don't have to pay *30! Dollars!* Shipping.

So I get why they are wary of international stuff. Add in tarrifs and duty and taxes and all the different jurisdictions legalities for contests and it's a quagmire. But it still sucks. I can't believe you won the contest and they wouldnt give it to you! Geeze Sad

This is why you need a colluder with a US mailing address.

Oh my god, that's awful!!! I hate it when contests are restricted based on country, as if that makes you any less worthy.

Heck, I'm in the US, but because it's Hawaii and not the mainland, I'd have to pay up the wazoo for Swamp Pop's shipping, and of course nobody sells it on the islands. I'll just have to wait for the day when I make it over to Louisiana, I guess. Too bad, though.

Anyways, I don't think that any of us, regardless of location, should feel bad about not being able to participate in the IRL dead drop, at least. It's not like they hid multiple packages. I feel like we were lucky to have someone close enough to get the package at all, and such a nice guy, too.

You're right, Mugen is very cool dude! We have luck it was him and not another random guy, who may just take it away and disappear in the Oblivion.

And thank you people, this contest experience was weird for me, (at the end, only at the end, the rest was inspiring and fun) but I'm over it. I know I cheated pretending to be an US resident just in order to take part on that contest. Because creativity doesn't know geographical or political boundaries.

The actually sad thing was, they let the contest collapse. I mean hey, there were so many cool entries, so many inspiring people who invested their time, and most of them with legal tax number. Why they just let it go? One day I would love to know...

Heh, I see this complaint board works fine.

@kosmopol so sorry to hear about your Super 8 Contest Experience, I would absolutely love to see a copy of your comic though if you still have it!

As for game criticism, this has definitely been a weird one...so many IRL references that haven't lead to much of anything. The dead drop was awesome IMO, but I am sure it made a lot of players feel alienated and left out, and also the Audio from the dead drop really didn't offer us much of anything as far as the narrative goes...Now this peculiar Simulation game which clearly had a lot of thought put into it...but it just hasn't given us anything new at all...The only thing that required any real investigation from the community so far has been the trailers/dead drop...and even that was, arguably, poorly executed because we didn't get High-Res versions for a while, which caused us to miss a few key details hidden in the images...I still am hoping for some epic post/s or event/s that can help us tie this whole thing together but it is seeming less and less likely as this thing progresses. My fingers are still crossed though.

Thank you people! Smile

The drawing booba linked (thanx! Smile) was for Star Trek, and funny thing was about - the character used this sheep as userpic for his YouTube account.

But my comic for Super8 contest is here:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=886876&search_id=640504991#886876

Funny thing was, some time later JJ Abrams made a TV show named "Revolution". I suppose, a coincidence, but funny.

P.S. I also hope this ARG will be continued or at least ends properly, not collapsed.
