[PUZZLE|SOLVED] QR Puzzle

Test subjects are receiving new packages through the post at the moment that contain what appear to be pieces of a QR code on the back of ID badges. (along with a pack of gum).

Under these pieces are a number of symbols (8 judging by the pics) that seem to be instructions on where to place these pieces on a grid e.g. (up, down, left righ etc)

This grid is likely (very very very muchly so) to be the one on the profile page.

* edited thread title as the puzzle has been solved -thebruce

Originally when worked out, this lead to the survivalcode.com/coda area, but in all likliehood this may have changed.

Can we get screenshots on here of all the different pieces?

These are the only pics I could find (so far) off of the facebook page. Apologies to everyone for ripping your badges off and posting here...I do it in the name of exploration and discovery!

Edit: Again, these are not my pics. These are the early pics people have been posting on FB. Also to add more confusion to the mix, some people are reporting their pics are backwards. Once more and more UF's get theirs I'm sure we'llhave a great collection of photos to compare.

Edit #2: Added the slip of paper that also comes with the badge and free pack of gum.

the solid square is a corner piece so if i had to judge based on this i would say we are looking at a 4X4 so we actually need 16 different pieces, it may be 3X3 meaning we need 12 but the corner piece looks way too big for it to be 4X2

I'd like to point out that in order to create a scannable composite, we'll need much clearer images. I'm guessing that, as the /coda (I think?) "clue" had indicated, there are eight different images, so I hope it won't be too difficult to get decent scans of each piece.

Edit:

But then again, that makes sense too. X3

Yeah I agree that it is most likely a 4x4 QR, but there is also the posibility its 5x5. And as for the pictures, they are fine. A decent QR could be made in Photoshop or paint using photos of the detail provided.

Possibility:

I remember when going through here before we saw that on the profile page that there were a few possible codes. If in order to make the code, say it takes 20 people to put their badges together, well then they would make one of the images... the one that is showed on their profile.

So... maybe that's how we'll be grouped! We're all part of the codes, there's a few!

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense. I'm just thinking and probably didn't word this right or could be completely wrong, but if I'm right...someone maybe can explain it better? thanks Smile heh

I get you, i think Smile

Each part of the code on the ID's might be part of a larger segment (4 for arguments sake).

Then when they are assembled they make 1 piece that fits into the grid on the profile page. So that would mean we'd need 4 x 8 different codes.

Or sommat like that.

Smile

YES! Smile Thank you for understanding hahaha.

but I just found it. I knew I had it written down somewhere! This is the link:

sc.com/images/profile/qrs/qr/qr?.jpg
and if you change the numbers one through nine I believe, you can see the different possible ones & I guess people all had one of them?

So. If you had QR7 then the one on your badge is probably part of THAT code.

Any thoughts??

I can't tell, but has the QR piece on our profiles changed?

It's a good theory but I believe everyone had the same piece of the QR code on their profiles - QR9, the center piece.

If we take the two pieces we have already there are actually only 2 valid QR code sizes, given that each piece is 7x7 pixels. The two valid sizes are either 21x21 which would be a 3x3 grid or 49x49 pixels which would be a 7x7 grid. There are actually larger sizes that would also work but they would have a lot of pieces so I'm ruling them out for now. If we can get one more piece I could probably confirm or deny the smaller grid but given there are 7-1 symbols under them I'm leaning towards a 7x7 grid. As more people get their ID's and post their pieces maybe we can figure out the symbols and the placements of the QR code pieces.

is the solid square really a corner piece? When I look at the thing on my profile the square is in the center of the thing.

A QR code *needs* a square on 3 of 4 corners to orient and align itself. Other squares can also appear inside the grid. See varients
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code

But i would laugh if we are building a larger mosaic which turns out to not be a QR code at all, possibly a giant pixelated image -- of an icefly.

(edit later to add, not that people will return to read it)
Our profile's QR piece has a 1x1 pixel inner square, making it an internal data bit per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:QR_Code_Structure_Example_2.svg

When I replied, I meant to emphasize the relative difference between the squares. It's the size of the black square inside the white border inside the outer black square which matters, the number of pixels making up the innermost square. Assume the white and outer black borders are each 1 pixel, then the inner black square would be 4x4 pixels to identify a corner block.
