[TRAILHEAD] The Darkest Puzzle
COUNTDOWN!

Posted to the ARG page on Facebook, a link to http://thedarkestpuzzle.com

It has an image of the NYC skyline - with the twin towers, and an OMGAWESOMESAUCE COUNTDOWN to August 21st, 10:43am (the javascript code contains no timezone tho, it seems)

It has a link to a Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Darkest-Puzzle/176678025725594

The page's info includes this little summary:
Quote:
On the day of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, a group of Alternate Reality Gamers called the CloudMakers discussed in an online forum how they could employ their “Collective Detective” skills to uncover the culprits behind the attacks. The moderators of this group soon dismissed the idea declaring “This Is Not A Game”. However a small group calling themselves Dark Cloud broke away to solve what became known as: The Darkest Puzzle.

Ten years later, all members of Dark Cloud have disappeared.

creepy...

Cloudmakers spinoff terrorism ARG? (I bet big brother's now flagged this discussion thread =)

Additionally, in the source of the website homepage is an arabic string which transltes to Little Syria.

It's also on the page itself, not just the source coding, as you can highlight it.

THX for the trail, TheBruce. That arabic abjad script is so beaut & am wondering if it refers to Little Syria, Manhattan. Will check it out at zero hour.

Aye, noticed that the colour was just black over the background - I did a quick ctrl-a to check but didn't see anything, so I just referenced the code being the easiest place to spot it Smile
Fun to block and copy though as well, as the little arabic string is right-to-left text, heh.

I noticed the string "teehan+lax;" as the author of that background image - a (or THE) development company (http://www.teehanlax.com) I guess.

Nope, that's the not pic... the image on thedarkestpuzzle is a silhouette and the edges don't match up to the portion of the image on gieson.com. It's just a standard cityscape of the NYC skyline - there are probably loads of them out there; at best, it might be the basis for a redrawn silhouette image. And on that note, I think gieson.com is the graphic designer for the site. Doubt it's an ingame thing.

In the "Utilities" section of www.gieson.com, there's a countdown clock: http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/countdown/index.html. Seems to me that's the only connection. As far as in-game avenues to explore right now, I think we're just going to have to wait for that clock to count down.

August 21st just happens to be the last day of ARGfest, (how I wish I was going) but now the timer looks like it expires at 10:20AM. Still no indication of the timezone.

This reminds me of the previously cancelled POW-Iraq ARG.
I hope that one of the ARGfest attendees does a good write up for the rest of us.

Count me in on this dark puzzle! O.o

Also, don't forget this picture which was posted by them on the facebook page.

A plane in 5 pieces with the middle piece having a shape like a puzzle. Sweet. Smile

I'd guess that our job will involve trying to find out who was flying the planes that crashed into World Trade Center, or something like that.

I think it's already known who was piloting the planes. I think our mission will be to find the missing members of Dark Cloud, but only time will tell.

Personally, I think this is in poor taste.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm assuming you believe it disrespectful to those who died in the 9/11 crashes?

I really don't want to get into a whole argument about religion. So I won't.

But let's just assume that, for the sake of argument, that souls do move on into an afterlife. I would, personally, think that these souls wouldn't want us spending the better part of our lives not being productive, immersed in mourning for the dead.
And, if souls don't move on into an after life, then who is really caring about your mourning?

I'm not here to be disrespectful. I understand that holes were left in many families from the horrible event that was 9/11. And I'm so very sorry that it happened. Fate has a weird way with our lives...

But it's coming close to a 10 year passing. It's time to move on. It's not "too soon" to be making jokes, or games anymore.

It's best that we move on with /our/ lives. The dead are dead. Let's focus on the living.

Once again, not here for an argument. Just stating what I think. If you think it's in poor taste, that's totally fine.

Anyway, to the point of my post, I'm in.

Edit: In fact, I'm going to spoil the part of my rant.
