Is anyone definitely going to Vancouver? It seems like there was a lot of interest but a lot of people are dropping out. If you're not going, is there a specific reason?
-money?
-location?
-timing?
-event organization?
Should we consider alternate venues or dates to try to get a group together?

I haven't decided one way or the other on Vancouver. I've always been concerned because no one actually lives there to assist in planning the event. I was waiting to see more organization and activity scheduling before I got a ticket. If I see that happen within the next few weeks, I can always scoop up a flight and get a hotel reservation. Without a known ARG component, it's just another trip for me, and I travel so much already.
I'm still planning to get a group together towards the end of the year (the date hasn't been announced yet) for Herald Hunt in South Beach, Miami, FL. Everyone will be welcome to join my (Unfiction?) team or form their own. I'll also plan some social events around it. If you want to call it an ARGFest, please do. (BTW, the 2003 Hunt solution is posted on that link. It'll give you a good idea how last year's event went down.) I'll post info as soon as the 2004 Hunt date is published.

I'll be there, as will GW - since our flight's already booked.

Sadly,, some unchangable crud has descended on my life, so I've had to
realize Vancouver is not gonna happen. Anyway, I prolly won't be online much in the next few weeks.

I'll be there, I've already purchased tickets. Curtis is coming also, at least as far as Seattle.
Editted for more stuff:
Btw, I can't get into chat right now, my m/b is fried and I'm on mom's computer. She has nothing on here and I can't add anything to it, unfortunately. I have no idea when I can replace my computer, I don't want to buy a cheap one (just to get online). I really liked my old one.

After much soul-searching I've decided to bow out. Kind of a combination of factors, including a Big Fat Greek Wedding (not mine thank god) and a family vacation. I'm stretched thin, like butter over too much bread
Have fun and drink your asses off

I'm probably not going to be able to, simply because the plane tickets are a little too pricey for me. If there is a last minute drop in price or I find a deal, I may be able to swing it. I'm thinking I may just have to wait until there is one more centrally located in the U.S. for those of us in the Chicago/Milwaukee area It doesn't look like many people are going now? Only 5?

ok, now out of the ones left that still are going, has anyone made reservations to stay anywhere? I was looking online and found all types of places to stay. I was wondering if we should stay in town or not. I'm looking more towards in town, near Stanley Park and Gastown. Online friends from the area have said that anywhere is fine. I think that being close to a few tourist attractions is a good idea. I'm going to book something in the next week or so. Some idea of where everyone wants to stay would be appreciated.
Since there aren't that many of us going, it would be nice to stay close, if not at the same place.

fyi I just sampled a few hotels and got far better rate quotes thru tourismvancouver.com
want to be in an area that we might could walk from to at least a few things...probably not chinatown, but maybe harbor-ish or gastown?
I'm willing to go upscale, but you guys may not...

I can't get that site to work, is there another address for it?
Walking around sounds good to me.
How upscale do you want to go?
editted to add: the site is now working for me and the Listel is out, it's all no smoking.

Call the hotels re smoking - they may not post on the website but a couple I called do have smoking rooms even though the hotel sites don't say so (others have balconies ).
Here's today's thought, and I am soliciting views of anyone in Vancouver as well as the travellers. Trying to keep the price down and the quality up has led me to a couple of hotels in North Vancouver - across the bridge or via seabus. One is right on the water. They claim easy access back into the city plus closer to those natural attractions to the north. (I looked at the Lonsdale Quay Hotel (kind of a unique boutique hotel) and a Holiday Inn Suites hotel in the area with lots of amenities). More hotel for the buck. Any thoughts? Other similar hotels anyone knows of?
(My preference is not to try to save money by staying close to the airport - rather get closer to the sights.)
Before we jump (although we should do it soon), keep in mind that while the travel sites help us comparison shop we can often do better by booking directly with the hotel.

Closer to the sites, sounds good to me, we aren't flying in at the Vancouver airport anyway, so there really isn't any reason to stay by it. I wouldn't mind a room with a view of the mountains or the water, either is fine. Of the 2 you suggested, either is fine but I think that the Lonsdale might be non-smoking. I've been looking either downtown(the entertainment district), or towards the north part of Vancouver, it's hard to decide, there are what seems like some really nice places to stay.
Granville Island looks good too.

I called both hotels. They both have some smoking rooms.

The Holiday Inn looks like a perfect place, it's not in the middle of the city and it looks like all of the rooms have beautiful views. It gets my vote! Now let's hope they still have some rooms available.
