Can we kill the "there was a new post..." feature?

PHPbb3 has this great feature where it will notify you of posts made since you hit 'reply', but on a forum as lightning-fast as this one, I sometimes find myself having to hit 'Submit' like 10 times because of how quickly the thread moves.

Can someone please consider turning it off?

Go to your profile
Open the side menu for Preferences >> Posting a Message
check your setting for "Always notify me of replies"
Remember to submit any changes.

That only disables emails if there are replies to a thread you posted in. This is topic/post review, something totally different. I wish that worked, though Sad

I actually like the feature though - very useful if you're quoting someone and the thread is active; if they change their text, it's good to know, plus it helps dissuade duplicate posts (two people posting the same thing simultaneously, even though it still happens because people either post it anyway or don't check what was just posted or changed and hit submit again).

It's really just a matter of hitting submit again if you don't care to see what's new in the thread.

It's really only a pain in bursts of activity when 10 people are posting at the same time, even hitting submit again right away might be too slow Razz

If I recall correctly, we even had this issue way back when I started in 2002 when there were many fewer people registered at UF... If the game is very active, and during peak times (usually late afternoons and early evenings as people get home from work or school and log in) ideas and thoughts would be flying so fast it could take a bit to get a word in.

Usually what I would do at that point is start a word document with my initial thoughts, wait a few minutes and read through the new replies and add any comments about those as well.
