Getting it started Getting the playerhead out there I've got a great idea for an ARG; the subject I'd rather not reveal. I'm not sure however how to get it all started. I've sent out some links to people who may be interested but I dunno what else I should do to get it up and running.

Some suggestions:
1. Have the whole story you want to tell planned out before you let the players in. It is much easier to keep things going if you know where you want the end to be.
2. Get others to help. Check the PM recruitment thread for people who have the skills or the time time to put into your project.
3. Have a timeline for when clues become available (i.e. on Week 1 day 1 players have access to this information)
4. Be prepared to not get much sleep especially after your game launches.
5. take the time you need to plan things out before you launch.

I've got alot of that stuff sorted. Maybe a few minor things to go over but I just dunno how to get it noticed.

1. See the "contact thread" at the top of this forum. It has e-mail addresses of people who are willing to be a place to get started. I would suggest starting at the freshest posts (the end) first, as these have most recently said they are interested in hearing in an "in game" manner for the "trailhead"
2. Ask the forum Moderators to post something for you (i.e. "Heard it from the grapevine") so that you do not break Unforums terms of service - Moderators are more than willing to help get the word out about your game.
3. Don'ts:
a) some players do not like to know who the PM is - so don't just say "I have a game, here is the first clue"
b) post to the forum "In Character" this could get you banned from UF (this is why the Mods have offered to post something for you).
c) stop running the game in the middle without giving your players a reason either In-game or out of game (It is ok to say "I'm sorry, real life is interferring - at least your players know you are willing to stay in contact with them and not leave them hanging)
Hope this information helps some!
Good luck!

Tried the first one, emailed all the last page, maybe I just need to find some more regular people on there.
If that doesn't work I'll have to go with number 2, though it'd feel like something of a cop out.
Cheers for the help

I'd suggest that you send to more than just the last page - sending out 50 or 100 e-mails to the last several pages might be better - You can tell how active a poster is by how many posts are listed under their name on the left side of each post, I'd suggest trying the more active ones, or checking some of the other games to see who is active there and targeting them (if they also have a post in the contact thread).
Asking the mods to help is a bit of a last resort if you can't find a novel way to introduce your game, but if you are just starting out, the community here is willing to help get you started by providing a bit of a boost for getting your game noticed.
Hope you game is a resounding success!

Well I just sent 73 emails. So hoping it works out.
And thanks; I'm running a small story just for the fun of it. It's not going to be a sprawling epic; but for an ARG I think it's a different way of telling a story.
