[OT] Details on Tron animated series "Tron: Uprising" http://www.collider.com/2010/09/27/tron-legacy-animated-tv-series-tron-uprising/
Quote:
Earlier this year, we reported on the news that Disney is creating an animated TV show based off of their upcoming Tron reboot/sequel, Tron: Legacy. At the time, we only knew that the series will appear sometime in late 2011 or early 2012 on either ABC or new “boy channel” Disney XD. We also knew that the series is designed as a “placeholder,” with the goal of maintaining fan interest while the second movie of a brand new trilogy is put together. It took a few months, but we now have an update on the project.
Disney has reportedly registered the domain name “tronuprising.com.” Stitch Kingdom did some digging and found out that Tron: Uprising is the title for the animated series. The site claims that the series will debut on Disney XD in the fall of 2011, and will be a “ten-part ‘microseries’ in which a young program named Beck stands up against an evil regime headed by Clu who obtains his status after the defeat of TRON, the security watchdog program.”
If anything, this news is only more proof that Disney feels very confident about Tron: Legacy and how it will perform. This news also makes it seem that Disney is definitely thinking about creating a franchise with the new film. I’m personally looking forward to seeing Tron: Legacy this December: if the film turns out to be as good as I hope it will be, then I will definitely check out this “microseries” next year.

Well, now we know that TRON dies at the hands of CLU at some point in the Tron timeline.
Thanks Stitch Kingdom.

Well, it didn't say killed TRON, it said defeated.
But yeah, a potentially very annoying spoiler.

I'll still watch this what is Disney XD? I think we are all still waiting to see how good this movie is. By all means this movie could be terrible.
The only reason I say it COULD be is I have seen numerous times when movie companies spent the equivalent of the cost of the film on advertising just to compensate for the fact that they know the movie is going to be a bust.
But I am a naive tron fan and I will probably go see the movie in 3D and regular format.
If they are saying that this cartoon will possibly tie into a 3rd film I am curious now more than ever as to what the hell will be going on in this film.
Who knows, so far I trust the cast, so I will wait for the excitement of the cartoon after I know how good the film is.

I'm a bit of a stickler for making sure watch things in the right order, having events unfold in the right way.
So just to be sure I'm not missing any steps the correct order of things to watch/do is:
1-Tron original movie
2-Tron Betrayal (GN)
3-Tron Evolution (game)
4-Tron Legacy
5-Tron Uprising
6-Tron movie #3
Am I missing anything?

The animated series (Uprising) is a hold over until Movie #2. So it might be:
1-Tron original movie
2-Tron Betrayal (GN)
3-Tron Evolution (game)
4-Tron Legacy
5-Tron Uprising
6-Tron Movie #2
7-Tron Movie #3
That is if there are no other comics, TV series, or other tie-ins between all of that. Time will tell.

Considering that this movie is talking about struggling against Clu, after the defeat of Tron... it almost sounds like a prequel, perhaps after the conclusion of Evolution (which appears to show an active Tron). This could lend support to the idea that Clu somehow bests Tron (in or during Evolution?), and that this "Beck" is the latest in a long line of defense programs Tron has set up to carry on his work...

The TRON trilogy does not include the original TRON film?
Am I reading this right, there will actually be 4 TRON films when it is all said and done?

That's the current rumor. The new film is supposed to kick off a trilogy, making four films when counting the original.

There was a thread here based around the theory that Rinzler could be Tron in a converted outfit. Various people have pointed out that the T block symbol on the chest is the same for both characters. It could be possible that after Clu "defeated" Tron, he merely converted his programming in order to hold allegiance to him only. If someone as powerful as Tron existed on the Grid, I think it would be a wise move for Clu to turn him as opposed to a complete derezzing. In the end, he would end up with a very resilient ally.

Disney...
I know, it's what you do; But, could we please, please not turn this into another High School Musical? I held off commenting on the TRON Yo-Yo. This is the least you can do for me

I fear it may be too late for that, my friend. When we see the Tron Christmas Special complete with guest appearances by Tom Green (in drag) and music by Crazy Town (Come my lady, come come my lady, you're my Solar Sailer, Yori, baby), we'll know what really happened.

Does this mean that you guys aren't excited to learn that the dreamy Justin Bieber is going to be in the Tron: Legacy sequel? Apparently he's going to teach us about abstinence and wholesome things like that.
(My permission to shoot me if it ends up happening... Please!)

You know, having the sequal out the fact that the Bieb is really just a computer program/virus would be awesome.
Also, lol.
