Player Help: Feedback + Treasure Hunt

I've asked around elsewhere when it occurred to me this may be a half decent forum to pose a question soliciting feedback from the player POV.

For those who enjoy treasure hunts of the following options, which do you think you would have more fun participating in and why? Thanks in advance to whoever stops in to offer their opinions.

Treasure hunt = clue based hunt out doors, not so much metal detectors and lost treasure (for this purpose)....

Clues: As you like them:

Option 1: You receive a packet of clues all at once, solve them all to reach a goal

Option 2: You start with one clue, solve it to find next clue/location, etc. to end point

Option 3: You get some up front, must root out others
A] in a specific order to find end point
B] in no particular order


Goals:

Option 1: Solve clues to locations to a final destination and story wrap

Option 2: Solve clues to locations in no particular order to find items
A] Keep items - all to win, some to win (if others play too)
B] Find & turn in items to win


In short, would you rather a public style treasure hunt lead to items to find, and if so: keep items or turn them in to win?

Or, clues lead to more clues/locations to an end point, solve a story based plot mystery to win?
