Dave laid the groundwork for so many people to discover ARGs and make their own... David is definitely a giant whose shoulders many will stand on for decades of ARG design to come.

RIP Broken hearted, I add my condolences to his family and the arg community.
Dave touched the minds, hearts, and imaginations of so many of us lucky enough to have encountered his brilliant creativity.
My mind wanders back to Aglaura.... gone forever... but never forgotten.

This is crushing news. I will always remember Dave for his leadership and friendship, and I wish him well on his journey. He was, and always will be, one of the best reasons to be a part of this community.

I'm grasping for words at this news... Dave has been a tremendous trendsetting force and inspiration to the ARG genre and the community, a friend to a lot of us.
I was so glad that I got to meet Dave at ARGfest in San Francisco in '07, and again in Boston last year, and was thoroughly impressed by his touching keynote speech.
My thoughts are with his family. Dave, you will not lightly be forgotton

I am normally not one who has a hard time with words, but this leaves me speechless.
RIP Dave.

The IGDA ARG discussion group is going to start an initiative to get him listed on the IGDA Memorials project at http://www.igda.org/wiki/Memorials .
I don't quite know how that process works myself, but figure I might as well mention it just in case it takes more than once voice to acknowledge him.

Oh wow. I just logged on to IRC and read the topic in #unfiction. What a shock to the system!
I didn't know Dave all that well, infact I only spoke to him twice ever, but I will always respect him for his work and his contribution to this ever changing community.
My condolences to his family, and his friends, many of whom are also my friends.
Rest In Peace Dave, you will be missed.

My dearest condolences to the ARG community and to his family. I haven't met Dave nor played any of his games, but I loved his book about ARG. It made me curious about these incredible games and about the community he spoke so warmly of. Many of you say: Dave = ARG. He has a truly wonderful legacy. My heart goes out to you.

From my contact with those who met him, Dave was a wonderful designer, leader, creator, and man. He leaves a wonderful legacy in the ARG world. RIP, Dave. <3

Dave, you know, I'm reading your book "This Is Not A Game" right now (after all the years). And you are speaking to me from this book. Even if I've never met you, you are here, real, friendly, smart.
This reality is just another alternate one. See you in the next reality.
And thank you for everything. For Chasing our Wishes.
And my deepest symapthies to your family.

As Giskard said above, Dave has been a tremendous inspiration to all of us here. Whether you've played his work, or seen him speak, or not, Dave was instrumental in defining the ARG and, in effect, developing this community. His family must feel thousands of times more loss than I do, but I have a huge hole now, as does Unfiction and ARGaming.

I thought that Dave would beat his illness. I know he fought hard.
Rest in Peace Dave. You changed my life. I hope you knew how loved you were.
