On all the pages that have "Start" on them, the slanted-line-bar is different on each page ... I have a feeling that the position of the orange block is a clue.

What? No idea.

In the big kindle on page 46, all the missing letters in the text of "The Purloined Letter" spell out:

I just solved the puzzle. Once you have all the words, what you do with them is really clever!

If anyone needs a small nudge in the right direction, message me. I don't wanna give away too much in this thread. BTW, JJ abrams article is really good. And the magazine mentions ARGs a few times. This issue is totally in the spirit of these forums Smile

I did almost think that too, for a second. But that's just how the page number progression through the section is depicted. The longer bars are the two-page spead. Same thing with the boxes in the Test section. It's always something like that each issue, I don't think we should look into that very much.

But I also notices that in "How to make you business card disapear," the card is for Marshall J. Flinkman of Credit Dauphine. Anyone remember Alias? The address is 444 S Flower St. LA, CA 90071, which is Citigroup, if it matters or anyone wondered.

Just got to the end of the Magazine puzzle, and I must say, I'm not sure the payoff is worth the sheer time investment.

Yes, the solving is fun of course, and I appreciate the effort, but how hard would it have been to throw a little something our way?

Exclusive content ... video message from JJ ... anything would have been nice.

So for those still pursuing, enjoy the pursuit. Don't focus on the end. (which is rather in line with JJ's article, indeed.)

For the lost puzzle (which is separate), I doubt this will help, but if I let the numbers wrap around (AKA, "a" could be "1" or "27")
I get:

page 1:

Q A V P H F
T K R R J N
G G E R V G E F
X O L M A H

page 2:

D H R C N O
B E F K J M
D L F S B V E
B A M B Q A Q

I totally agree. I'm wondering though about the image you get at the end. I can't tell if it's supposed to mean something or just a graphic. plus, did you notice the email address? It's from alice in wonderland...

The lost puzzle's got me stumped right now though...and i'm still wondering about the 11th track on the music page.

so on bradicali.blogspot.com, Nick Tierce and Steven Bevacqua have made great progress with the Lost code! They used a vigenere cipher to get the page on the left.

It says:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
USE LETTERS BACKWARD FROM END

I had a lot of fun with this puzzle, it's too bad I didn't know UF had a topic until I had solved it!

This Bevacqua guy must be a maniac. He solved the thing in a couple days and he's already taking on the biggest mystery.. amazing

More LOST puzzles

Excellent work on the spine puzzle.
Found a couple more:
page 20: the "constellations" around the moon are moon type. Starting from the 12-o-clock position and going clockwise, I get "ARKENEDHE". Maybe "HEAR KENED
page 80: the cut-outs on the "J.J., Man of Mystery" photos are prison tap code. They spell "OCEAN"

Or very simply "hearkened" as in the past tense of a synonym for "hear"

And I really just noticed the plethora of hints in the ads and such on the "continued form page 508" Star Trek's Greatest Puzzle page

EDIT: Noticing the above hints, using the twisted wire code, the colorful "WIRED" on page 8 spells
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
TURBO

I haven't quite solvd this yet BUT:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Most (?) of the solutions are single words, right?,
Well, if you read the "continued form page 508" Star Trek's Greatest Puzzle page:

"In a veritable OCEAN of blood..."
"...cause the theta bomb to MAGNETIZE..."
"A similar THEORETICAL approach..."
"Known as the TURBO Gambit..."
"As any TREKKIE knows..."
"Some HEARKENED back to the..."

That's all I want/am able to give away right know... don't wanna spoil it for others but I also wanna keep working on it! Smile

I've got the issue! (Thanx, enaxor, you're great!)

Anyway, I'll write here about another things, but here the first impressions:
very awesome puzzles, and it seems to be more there hidden.

What do you think about these two weird ads at the page 129.
They looks very ARGish:

Quote:
XCISOR
LASER
KNIVES
Perfect for slicing up text!
http://www.xcisorknives.com

(it has also reference to the Klingon knife column at the page 014).

Another ad:

Quote:
MetaGlobalTECH
http://www.metaglobaltech.com
Exploiting the overlaps between the multifarious layers of reality since 1983.

The wired weird thing is, both URLs redirects to Wired.com.

Will there be more?
