New background image at johannbayer.eu

Although I guess everybody knows about it, it should be set in stone here.

After a day (or night) of playing with the sliders to produce waveform after waveform on http://www.alertvulcan.com , we got a new background image at johannbayer.com, the first password remains the same.

The new background image gives us 40 Eridani, or in other words the star Vulcan orbits, which can be clearly seen swirling around 40 Eri. On the other hand it gives us a stable input box to "confirm a location signifier".

New mail from containthethreat@googlemail.com
Subject: Eridanus

Quote:
I've shared a document with you called "eridanus":
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=r3gPS2JAmL2FPMf6p2NOmmg

It's not an attachment -- it's stored online at Google Docs. To open this document, just click the link above.

data set now partially complete. incorrect location signifier not yet
identified, or corrected. you must assist.

This is the abovementioned - updated - spreadsheet and obviously we need to find the bogus signifier and/or correct it.

combined backgrounds

The two background images actually fit together, so I assume we are getting at least two more of those. I held the combined images to the cam on johannbayer.com, but it makes no difference, the software only locks onto one part, so you get either the rotating map with the signifiers or the 40 Eri one, not both at the same time. See combined imaged below.

Here’s how you can save yourself some time and see all 20 variants of the alertvulcan videos:

Install FLV Player - http://download.cnet.com/FLV-Player/3000-13632_4-10467081.html - it’s a program that lets you view the FLV files contained in the alertvulcan flash movies.

There are 20 videos to enjoy; http://www.alertvulcan.com/video/1.flv through http://www.alertvulcan.com/video/20.flv - copy and paste those URLs onto FLV Player to see them.

alertvulcan.com solved?

Okay… that monkey looking through the telescope might be a Romulan joke about human astronomy skills, but let me say that Romulan web development skills also leave a fair bit to be desired.

Either that or Kaleh has left a *deliberate* backdoor in http://www.alertvulcan.com so that we can start to broadcast the transmission before CTT catches up with us.

I prefer the backdoor theory myself because it sounds vaguely plot-like, and because it doesn’t look like I’ve been reverse-engineering the website quite so much.

Here’s how to create a transmission that appears on the meter like http://www.alertvulcan.com/widget.php?user_id=PDKDU

1. Install Firebug for Firefox - http://getfirebug.com/ - it’s a plugin that allows you to manipulate web pages after they have loaded.
2. Using Firefox, enter any combination of inputs at http://www.alertvulcan.com and click generate to get to the email page.
3. Right click on the email field and choose Inspect Element to open the Firebug panel.
4. Where you see <input>, change “xx” (which is a number between 1 and 20 corresponding to a video as explained in my previous post) to “transmission” (this is the key of the transmission video that we need to broadcast)
5. Enter your email address and click Submit.
6. You should receive a transmission email from CTT and your user_id should be added to the meter on http://www.alertvulcan.com

Perhaps if we can use this to get enough lines on the meter, the transmission will be amplified enough to reach Vulcan and save the planet!

I recorded the audio from the video I created this morning using the above method (mine was http://www.alertvulcan.com/widget.php?user_id=QT711 btw) to see how it compares to the tones from malak0's device. If the speed of the recording is increased 3-400%, it is pretty obvious that what we are sending is the audio equivalent of ... --- ... which you may recognize as morse code for S.O.S.

Process from location signifier to vulcan frequency.

For anybody still confused, I made a short three-pic visual from the location signifier for 40 Eridani (Vulcan's star) to the frequency of the Vulcan high Command.

So the geniusses in the chat took the Google spreadsheet provided by CTT ( http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=r3gPS2JAmL2FPMf6p2NOmmg ) found the way to make the hidden (see Eridanus constellation image below) equation work with the values given to get the corrected and missing location signifiers ( http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=r09zbR8wsVvuv2wJ-9Tbd2w ), including the one for 40 Eridani A or "Keid" (Vulcan's sun) - 129959104 .

This entered into johannbayer.eu with the 40 Eri-background (No. 2) held up to the cam gives what is seen in the three images above.

We tried to use the frequnecy from the Vulcan High Command as O-r on alertvulcan.com, but no "transmission" video could be created with it, yet.

Someone on IRC said that they wished I'd posted my sped up version of the transmission audio. Here's the transmission.flv audio, sped up 350%. It seems really clear to me that this is supposed to be SOS even though I do acknowledge that it makes no sense to send "SOS" to Vulcans. You can blame the PM's for that! Smile

nice work Mescad. only Vulcan technology can save us now.

has anyone tried speeding up the tune in Malak0's YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oGRmMJOtJ4) to check if it sounds anything like the http://www.alertvulcan.com/widget.php?user_id=PDKDU transmission?

That is what gave me the idea to speed up the other audio. My recording of malak0's tones is about 4 seconds, while the transmission audio was about 16 seconds. I thought maybe they were the same sound, so I sped up the longer one to see, and immediately recognized SOS.

I manipulated the malak0 device tones up, down, and every other way I could think of when we first recorded them.

In reference to:

Gigastazio - May 1, 2009

Oh, and it also occurred to me to break the pitches down into their frequencies. Perhaps there’s a clue in these numbers:

High G: 196.998 Hz
Low G: 97.999
D: 293.66 Hz

If anyone has better numbers for these, feel free to offer them.

So we are assuming it is:

Square Freq. 300
Sine Freq. 100
Saw Freq. 200

Square Phas. unknown
Sine Phas. unknown
Saw Phas. unknown

232 and V160574_A

Some people are also trying:

Square Freq. 600
Sine Freq. 200
Saw Freq. 400

Doubled ranges - whatever that means Laughing

Ok, there is just so much stuff going on here, can someone or some people work on updating the wiki (link)? I'm waaaaay behind and have no idea what's going on right now Smile
Lots of pictures and audio have been linked as well over the past couple of weeks - feel free to upload them to the wiki too. I've made a page for the alertvulcan site, but it (and the other pages) really need updating and populating...

alertvulcan.com re-solved?

From Gigastazio’s analysis of the frequencies in Malak0’s video:

Square Frequency: 300
Sine Frequency: 100
Saw Frequency: 200

And from trying most of every combination of phasing:

Square Phase: 0.5
Sine Phase: 0.0
Saw Phase: 0.5

(which nicely matches the S.O.S. morse code that Mescad found in the soundtrack of the resulting transmission)

From the crash site:

232

From johannbayer.eu:

V160574_A

... results in the correct transmission video:
