Luce's Lover's Eye
ARGfest trailhead (ghosts of a chance)

So uh, this stripper totally bogarted the end of Steve Peters' presentation by dancing into the main conference room and flexing his henna'd muscles for a while.

He had some words written up near his left shoulder, so I did a bit of Googling and found something strange at this Smithsonian webpage:

Here, you will find this text, which is

upside-down. To wit:

Here's a bit more about the text, which leads you to a new spot:

Clicking the question mark (which is a hyperlink), leads you to:

http://ghostsofachance.com/

Where you can submit yours or your lover's eye, and there is a telephone number to call. I had a hard time understanding the first part of the call, but there is an option to recite a bit of Shakespeare at the end - specifically, the Three Witches' speech from the Scottish play. I did not leave a message, as I felt shy, and still a little freaked out by the stripper, but I am sure someone else will be more brave than I.

There is also a countdown.

Was wondering that myself.

Has anyone been bold enough to send in a real pic of their eye? (You know the say every eye is unique... like a finger print...)

So, hm. This ARG has an affiliation with the Smithsonian?

EDIT: Yes, found the PM.

If it does have something to do with the Smithsonian, then it could be something involving history.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luce - maybe this'll help?

Email my lover's eye?!? Ewww..... I think she actually needs it, but I'll ask.

***SMACK!***

Well... forget... that... *THUD!*

*EDIT*
You know, in thinking about it, this doesn't make any sense... Why would the Smithsonian send a stripper to a place like ARGFest to get this going? I mean, think about it, a borderline government agency sending a stripper to a convention in a hotel? That would be front page news on The Drudge Report!

I'm not sure if this ARG has such an affiliation, but the PM does. (I found him elsewhere)

He's on Linked-In as well as in IMDB

(btw, i fixed your link in my copy of your spoiler)

For the record, the countdown is ticking down to August 8th at midnight. To be specific, I believe it's counting down to midnight that day, which would be August 9th; the date is defined as "2008,8,8,24,0,0" in Javascript, which is rather odd in my opinion, but no matter.

I called the phone number as well, but didn't do the incantation because I'm not in a position right now to be speaking that out loud. Maybe it's my cell phone, but I could hardly understand the text leading up to it; there's some garbled speak, I think between two people, and then the recording tells you to press "0#", then it proceeds to record you speaking the "double, double..." incantation.

The guy on the phone said September 9th , not August? September 9th would be 51 days away., But I couldn't find anything related that happened on that date in history.[/quote]

Well, I sent an eye (ewww!) and added to the invocation. Which is pretty cool btw. Seems they are layering all the calls. Eventually it'll turn into mush, I'm sure, but right now, not bad.
