[Trailhead] "The Nines" -- a casual cross-media game

Hello. Just wanted to let members of the community know about a cross-media game that, while inspired by the ARG tradition, is oriented toward casual players. Since the game is linked to an indie film ("The Nines" directed by John August) that premieres at the end of the month, we chose to publicize the existence of the game up front.

The first clue is currently linked to the home page on http://www.ugo.com as well as to the movie site ( http://www.lookforthenines.com ). The puzzle may seem very easy to more hard-core ARG players, but it is somewhat difficult for casual visitors and we ended up adding a hint to the UGO page. This gap in puzzle-solving skills is exactly what we hope to address with the casual cross-media format.

Thanks to the ARG community for -- well, for existing and for opening the doors to a range of creative possibilities.

Celebratory Genie

What im wondering is, once the first puzzle has been solved, and you see what you need to see (and i have), does the trail end there? or do we wait for more breadcrumbs?

EDIT: Scratch that, found what I was meant to find. I like the way it was worded too. Pretty clever.

Did anyone get the answer to the first puzzle?

What I think it might be, I looked at the clue on UGO.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Is the anagram an address? I looked at the clue and I keep thinking it'll be 'east/west something's road'

an answer?

Here's what I'm guessing:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Take every ninth word from the note to make the anagram.

And here's what I think the answer is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
FIND GABRIEL'S BLOG
Gabriel being the main character from the first of the 3.

That's what I did but I'm horrible at anagrams. Ah I'll go do that now...

You should really register btw...you can get thread update notices in your email and it's pretty cool.

I checked out secondlife. When you teleport to the coordinates flashed at the end of the film you're at this huge keyboard with the number nine glowing. When you activate the nine it teleports you to this house. Inside the house is a small orange square named "nines posit". The square says "Look for the Nines" on it if you look close enough. But I can't do anything with the square and its owner/creater claims to have no idea what I'm talking about when I messaged them about it.

And yes, I was in the house as Delian Dragonash just now.

yeah i saw that, i didnt bother to message them, because "inspecting" it gives you pretty much OOG details.. i checked all their profiles and theyre all game designers, etc..

ive been in that house for the past 2 frggen hours and i got nothin...

the only "nines" that are there are in three places..

1.) backyard backgammon dice

2.) side of the house, newspaper on ground

3.) living room, same newspaper

whats up with the "Alsacian Riesling Grand Cru 2007"? Its a form of wine, but why does it have :

"1,2,3 sufe!"

above it?

WeIrD..

EDIT: oh ya, I skimmed the magazines in the bedroom too, but it was waaay too long to read... didnt look like anything was there, did anyone else actually read all of it?! lol i doubt it... fashion stuff

and whats up with the 10 mousetraps?!?!

8 in the kitchen, 2 in the upstairs hallway
