Review the registration information and the history of the site. If this is an ARG I'll provide the BBQ sauce for that hat.

They say on their site that they canceled their Christmas party and donated the funds to the "Brian Rhatigan Junior Memorial Chernobyl Hope Project." Interestingly, every one of the 209 results that Google returns for "Chernobyl Hope Project" is a Steorn reference (either to their site or the video of the Steorn team shaving their heads for the cause.) Seems strange that they don't even link the "Project." Indeed, the project doesn't seem to have any website or basis in reality other than a government filing threatening to revoke the business name: http://www.cro.ie/_uploads/Croga/Involuntary_First_Iris/Invol1_2006sep15.pdf
Given, if this is an ARG, it's one for which the creators aren't shy about registering bona fide businesses (or commandeering existing, failing ones.) Maybe this will come to be seen as the quintessential "next-generation" ARG - ARG 2.0, if you will, with an unprecedented degree of real-world credibility.
I'm relatively new to the whole ARG concept (having just recently gotten on the boat with YZ), but even my first impressions of Steorn last year were definitively "viral."

I searched for the name "Brian Rhatigan" and found pictures of both Junior and Senior. They are real people -- or were, now that both have died. According to this news article, Junior preceded his father in death.
Millionaire's wife and girlfriend both say goodbye
"Mr Rhatigan had established a charitable foundation in his son's honour." -- This may be the same charity that Steorn has donated funds to, or it might be a separate foundation.

Orbo to be put on display in London...
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/04/steorns-orbo-free-energy-machine-demonstrated-tomorrow/
Ever since this started, part of me wants it to work. Can you imagine how quickly and drastically the world would change?

The machine Cause stuff often disappears on the internet.
Quote:
Here we go, after months of doubt over claims of a magnetic machine promising "infinite clean energy," Steorn will be putting their wares on display for public scrutiny in London. A physics defying perpetual machine, if you will. Starting tomorrow, rumor has it that the Kinetica museum will host the Orbo device for a ten day long public demonstration of the technology. We're expecting a formal announcement at 6pm London (1pm New York). iPhone shmiPhone, this is going to be good.
Update 1: Still nothing from Steorn yet, but Irish RTE News has also "confirmed" the impending announcement. Moreover, a "very simplified version" of the technology will be viewable by streaming media over the Intertubes. So get ready kids, they say you'll be able to watch janky video of a prototype "lifting a weight" from four different angles starting at 6pm London time. Otherwise, you can view the device live at Kinetica from Thursday 5 July to Friday 13 July.
Update 2: First picture of the mystical device! [Thanks, Jordy]
Update 3: CEO Sean McCarthy tells SilconRepublic how it works. Namely, the time variance in magnetic fields allows the Orbo platform to "consistently produce power, going against the law of conservation of energy which states that energy cannot be created or destroyed." He goes on to say "It's too good to be true but it is true. It will have such an impact on everything we do. The only analogy I can give is if you had absolute proof that God wasn't real." Whoa.

Camera 4 of their web stream seems to be live, but nothing's happening yet... freeenergytracker says the demo will be 6pm London time (GMT/BST), so likely around 1pm EDT

Maybe they mean something related to a ball bearing, like an enclosure or some such. The last time I checked, it's pretty difficult to break a ball bearing. There would have to be incredible forces involved.
They're now saying that the bearing problem was fixed, but that there's an issue related to the heat being generated by the media lighting:

Apparently it has to stay cool to achieve OU.

So, you can watch the live feed right now. Nothing happening, except some guy standing at a computer typing. Something plexiglass in the center. 4 camera angles to choose from.
