Just had a very WILD idea.

What if......

each string of digits is a "path" towards the next prime-numbered-card on the "map of all cards"? And by fitting all the paths between all the prime-numbered-cards you would eventually get a sequence of playing cards.

This would then lead to some solitair cipher keyed deck. Possibly decrypting a part of the Shuffled card (that cannot be decrypted by the solution of the shuffled card itself, the other part would still have to be decrypted by the hints on the shuffled card itself and may not be as important) or some other encrypted text we haven't found yet.

To let this work there would have to be roughly 54 paths (so 27 wave 4 cards containing each 2 strings of digits). So far I've counted 19 or so. Please somebody count them all!!

Probably way too farfetched but it would tie these numbers with the prime numbered cards!

Just my 2 cents...

other wild idea

Going off of arnezami’s WILD idea...

Spoiler (Rollover to View): ...involving paths on the card-back map, what if this is a list of paths taken and trade-offs made by the four cube thieves during the theft (e.g. 1-14443432.5-3 could mean Vadik[got the cube and went]-N,W,W,W,S,W,S,SE-[then passed it off to]Kilo (depending on how you number the compass points and thieves…))? If we get an idea of how to string the paths together (obviously starting at the Academy), we could reconstruct some kind of gigantic relay race across the map pieces to find out where the cube left Perplex City, and where to ask about more information (i.e., if the paths go through one map piece several times, it may be likely that someone from there knows more about the theft than had previously let on). We'd also be able to determine likely roads/sub routes taken.

Just some thoughts as this American follows along waiting for my wave 4’s to arrive…

Don't know if its viable. But man! It sounds very exciting! Really like your idea of trade-offs etc. Cool.

Still have some serious doubts about the 90/45 degree demands on the perplex city map which seems too much to ask. It just doesn't seem "straight" enough. But well...

To be clear: I was talking about the "map" of 16x16 cards: that is the front of the cards containing the playing card symbols. Still with me?

Anyway. Hope we can crack this challenge! I believe wild ideas may be needed. And I have the feeling much is at stake here...

I know this is the wrong place to post this but I got this on the end of an email today (along with others that are already in the Wiki).

Quote: From: Sente Kiteway To: Adrian Hon Subject: Re: Wave 4 Cards Sent: 20 July 2006 10.53am What do you mean by 'unusual markings'?

So, everybody check their mail, we might get some clues there?

So, to clarify, you got this for solving a set of 4 cards, right?

Ok. Lets try to gather all information together.

Right now we have these (please check if they are correct):

 Quote: #029 1-14443432.5-3 and 3-232.52.51.5-1 #040 2-11444414412-3 and 1-1144144414432.5-4 #058 2-21122214-4 and 4-23232.534334-1 #060 1-414141414144144441-1 and 4-44444444111111111114-3 #063 3-34-1 and 2-414441141-1 #090 4-4444444443.5-1 and 3-433333334-2 #094 2-4111111441-2 and 1-1114112321-1 #096 1-222233332-4 and 3-44411414441444112.5-4 #136 3-2333234-1 and 4-143334-3 #156 2-111221111112-4 and 2-2232-4 #188 4-11122221412234-2 and 2-21121111221-4 #191 2-11444444444411111111444-2 and 1-344411444443-1 #192 3-3333322333332-4 and 1-444444114411112-1 #203 4-33223333234-4 and 3-11144144144443-3 #218 2-4444433333323-2 and 1-44334-3 #222 4-1414411122-2 and 3-34433333432-4 #237 3-3333334433334-1 and 2-1222323-2 #250 4-332233333333332-1 and 1-343-2 #253 1-1111211112-4 and 2-111114441114114-1

This one is still missing (scan available but not the digits themselves):

 Quote: #235 ???? and ????

These ones do not seem to have digits on them (scan available but I could be wrong please confirm):

Quote: #008 no digits #026 no digits #031 no digits #062 no digits #154 no digits #159 no digits #168 no digits #186 no digits #188 no digits #189 no digits #190 no digits #221 no digits #223 no digits #224 no digits #252 no digits #254 no digits #255 no digits #256 no digits

These are unknown (no scan available and/or no mentioning of digits, they all still have to checked):

Quote: #028 please check #030 please check #032 please check #061 please check #064 please check #072 please check #092 please check #093 please check #095 please check #104 please check #122 please check #124 please check #125 please check #126 please check #127 please check #128 please check #157 please check #158 please check #160 please check #204 please check #205 please check #206 please check #207 please check #220 please check #236 please check #239 please check

I guess we can sort this out fairly quickly. Just check all your cards and look if there are digits on them. And please enter your results here.

That would be great!

Regards,

arnezami

PS. Please also look for "dark shapes". Btw: does #94 have a dark shape on it?
PPS. Does the orientation (vertical vs horizonal) of the strings of digits matter? Which one is considered to be "up-side-down" when the two strings are vertical?

Of my wave 4s (which is all but some silvers) your list of numbers/no numbers is correct except for

 Quote: #236 4-4333223323-3 3-2112223-2

is missing.

To be a bit more precise, I have (and have checked) all wave 4 but;
#235
#250
#253
#255 and
#256

When I saw #255 and #256 at the event yesterday I did not see any numbers on them, though.

In all the vertical numbers in your list, you always seem to list;

t-T
s-h
r-e
i-n
f--
--T
s-h
i-i
h-s
T-.

Thanks Arkai!

So these are now the known digits strings:

 Quote: #029 1-14443432.5-3 and 3-232.52.51.5-1 #040 2-11444414412-3 and 1-1144144414432.5-4 #058 2-21122214-4 and 4-23232.534334-1 #060 1-414141414144144441-1 and 4-44444444111111111114-3 #063 3-34-1 and 2-414441141-1 #090 4-4444444443.5-1 and 3-433333334-2 #094 2-4111111441-2 and 1-1114112321-1 #096 1-222233332-4 and 3-44411414441444112.5-4 #136 3-2333234-1 and 4-143334-3 #156 2-111221111112-4 and 2-2232-4 #188 4-11122221412234-2 and 2-21121111221-4 #191 2-11444444444411111111444-2 and 1-344411444443-1 #192 3-3333322333332-4 and 1-444444114411112-1 #203 4-33223333234-4 and 3-11144144144443-3 #218 2-4444433333323-2 and 1-44334-3 #222 4-1414411122-2 and 3-34433333432-4 #236 4-4333223323-3 and 3-2112223-2 #237 3-3333334433334-1 and 2-1222323-2 #250 4-332233333333332-1 and 1-343-2 #253 1-1111211112-4 and 2-111114441114114-1

This one is still unknown:

 Quote: #235 ???? and ????

And these have not yet been (fully) verified:

 Quote: #250 #253 #255 #256

@Arkai: did you also check the correctness of the known digits? Somebody might have made a typo...

Little confused about this. In your example does the "f" (from "first") begin in the middle?? Or at the bottom? And are individual digits rotated 90 and 270 degrees or 0 and 180 degrees on the card? Or not at all?

Thanks.

Checked all that I've got. What I meant was read up through the 270degree rotated column, then down the 90degree rotated column. All of your verticals follow this format. All of your horizontals are top first, then upside-down bottom.

EDIT: I would say you are missing only two more sets of numbers. My reasoning? Because you have 10 starting with 1-..., 11 with 2-..., 10 with 3-..., and 9 with 4-... . As there do not seem to be two starting the same on one card, I would say on one card there is 1-/4-, and on another there would be 3-/4-. I could be completely wrong, but that's what I think. Has anyone checked #257 and #P01?

Ok. I now understand. So this means all verticals could (in theory) be wrong: maybe right-side-up is up-side-down (and vice versa).

Exactly which cards have vertical strings of digits (on the right side of the card)? And are there any verticals on the left side of any cards?

Interesting. We should check those too...

The numbers on #094, #136, #156, #203, #222 and #237 are vertical.
The rest of them seem to be horizontal.
Maybe it's worth marking the vertical ones.

EDIT: Oh, didn't see that... so it could be 1-/3-, 4-/4- then.

EDIT 2: As for how they got there, try this.[/url]
