[DISCUSSION] Angels and symbols

Right now the biggest discussion points over at the OE forums seem to be relating to
1) the historicity of angels, fallen angels, and nephilim
and
2) attempting to understand, possibly decode, the symbols that are found on 00112358.net, and on ABC's own website for Fallen

If anyone here has any input or can help out at all, while we wait for the next update, that would be great! We need more (intelligent, experienced) people involved... Smile

EDIT: Topic retagged. --Phaedra

Easy enough..

Occording to the order they are on your site... they translate into the Angelic/Hebrew letters as follow
Pe reversed
Nun
Unsure...
Vau
Gimel
Possibly Zade... Looks more like it's from JRR Tolkien's Elven alphabet in truth.
Iamed reversed.

I do hope that this has been some help. Smile

Hmm, nun isn't really forked like that.

If these are based on Hebrew, of which I'm not convinced Razz, possibly shin.

Or, if your reversing pattern holds true, possibly ayin.

Yeah, I got nothing on that one.

Or a deformed ayin...or a deformed tzade.

Confused

I dunno, I think it's a stretch. Razz

Hmm, yes, I suppose it could be some variant on Tengwar (or maybe even Sarati), but I don't think that really makes sense in context.

These are fallen angels, not elves, and I think the Tolkien Estate might have a thing or two to say about it if they suddenly started spouting Quenya. Wink

How about runes?

Well, they're not nordic runes, I can tell you that much.

I totally agree that some of them look just like Tengwar, but the more people discuss this, the more I'm coming to the conclusion that this is a completely fictional alphabet based upon a number of 'exotic' looking writing systems. As such, it's gonna be a little difficult to figure out what each symbol means without more text - and that's assuming that they are just writing English with different letters rather than writing an unknown language with different letters - and that the original creators of this alphabet for the movie actually implemented these as an alphabet and not just some pretty designs to throw around.

There have been some attempts at screen capturing the letters along with what appears to be English translations, and the results aren't looking too promising right now for an easy solve.

well I've been trying to separate out repeated patterns based on all the captured instances of the symbols (see here)

It's definitely not a one-to-one replacement... there are varying orientations and positions, in some cases sizes... if there is an actual translation matrix, it won't be an easy task to figure out.

Bruce... I must say that you are doing a wonderful job xD And I believe you guys are right, it's a fictional langauge. If you look in the Ocular Effect forums (which I know Teh Bruce has xD) then you will see some more issues with the languauge. And they've brought up another good point of the 7 symbols on the seal/combination lock for the oculus could be people's names. Anyway... I tis off to work now, yo!
