Well I'm feeling like a complete idiot now...lol.
I still can't help seeing these as equations and it's really messing with my ability to see them any other way but anyway...

On 1+6.html.....If the 2 is a "C" then

1
+2 C
+6
10

Sort of becomes true because C is a 3 in standard form..(so then 1+3+6 does equal 10)

And if "A" is 3 then in

3 A
+7
10

Would the 7 have to become a 9(I) to make A(1)+?=10

Could we have to use a sort of cumulative/elimination strategy of some sort?

Does this make any sense at all?lol
I do realize we're not meant to "add", but I'm fresh out of ideas and thought it may give someone a new one...

i don't know if I can jump in and help...

Quote: there's one thing that separates the numbers on the page as the same in the name so look for that sign it's there by design and it shows you which ones are the same

One separator in both the url name and on the page, that is the plus sign. How does a plus sign show you which things are equal, rather than the equal sign? BTW, the pages never use the "=" symbol but rather use the horizontal line to *imply* equals in a sum. [I stored some copies of the pages without the redirect, so you can look at the equations as they were presented without them disappearing.] Perhaps the math is not math.

I've tried to sort the equations differently, looking for patterns of info:
 Code: (Does order matter?) 0+1=1 on 7+26.html 0+4=4 on 14+25.html 0+4=4 on 23+24.html 0+5=5 on 15+20.html 0+6=6 on 23+24.html 0+7=7 on 23+24.html 1+1=2 on 2+13.html 1+1=2 on 5+21.html 1+2=3 on 9+11.html 1+2+6=10 on 1+6.html 1+4=5 on 8+18.html 1+5=6 on 15+20.html 1+6=7 on 10+22.html 1+6=7 on 12+17.html 1+6=7 on 23+24.html 1+7=8 on 14+25.html 1+7=8 on 16+19.html 2+1=3 on 9+11.html 2+2=4 on 15+20.html 2+2=4 on 12+17.html 2+2=4 on 2+13.html 2+7=9 on 16+19.html 3+1=4 on 5+21.html 3+1=4 on 7+26.html 3+1=4 on 9+11.html 3+2=5 on 12+17.html 3+7=10 on 1+6.html  4+1=5 on 3+4.html 4+1=5 on 10+22.html 4+3=7 on 5+21.html 5+0=5 on 3+4.html 9+2=11 on 8+18.html

and sorted differently:
 Code: (Why repeat so many 4-sums?) 0+1=1 on 7+26.html 1+1=2 on 5+21.html 1+1=2 on 2+13.html 1+2=3 on 9+11.html 2+1=3 on 9+11.html 0+4=4 on 23+24.html 0+4=4 on 14+25.html 2+2=4 on 15+20.html 2+2=4 on 12+17.html 2+2=4 on 2+13.html 3+1=4 on 9+11.html 3+1=4 on 5+21.html 3+1=4 on 7+26.html 5+0=5 on 3+4.html 0+5=5 on 15+20.html 4+1=5 on 3+4.html 4+1=5 on 10+22.html 1+4=5 on 8+18.html 3+2=5 on 12+17.html 1+5=6 on 15+20.html 0+6=6 on 23+24.html 0+7=7 on 23+24.html 1+6=7 on 23+24.html 1+6=7 on 12+17.html 1+6=7 on 10+22.html 4+3=7 on 5+21.html 1+7=8 on 14+25.html 1+7=8 on 16+19.html 2+7=9 on 16+19.html 3+7=10 on 1+6.html 1+2+6=10 on 1+6.html 9+2=11 on 8+18.html

No conclusions, just another vantage point.

email to psammeade: Ode to a Scribe

Ode to the Scribe
a poem

A Master Scribe of rarity
to me provided a moment of hilarity
What comes around goes around
a truer verse I have never found
to target a very tender part
Oh yes the smarty knave
may not be able to sit down for days
Altho my rhyming is inferior
I praise the chewing of his posterior
And as the tears of joy run down my cheeks
Thank you, I havent laughed so much in weeks!
Now if you are ever a friend in need

Heh. Sorry, cem.

I thought the terms "jerk" and "brainfart" were enough to suggest that it had a more terrestrial generation.

And I hope everyone noticed that I changed "more matter, less art" from Hamlet into "more matter, less brainfart." I expect the Bard (or Bacon) to rise from his grave and murder me in my sleep tonight.

S'kay Dan....lol

I've been busting my brain on this every day and came over and immediately just took in the part in quotations....and honestly, with all the clues we've been given I wouldn't have been surprised had he indeed responded in such a manner....(and judging by you spec. neither would you..lol)

I can't help but think this is going to have a big DOH!!! factor....

Well I've been staring at these "equations" and "hints" for awhile and kept asking myself....if we only have to change 8 letters, why do we have the whole alphabet and thirteen pages?

Still don't know...but thought I'd post the following anyway, I know it's not correct because I haven't actually "transmuted" anything...but interesting nonetheless.

I went looking for the number "8" and took a look at the "totals" in the equations that Catherwood posted....and there are 8 "equations" totalling "4". So I converted the page name to letters (a column on the left and a column on the right).

0+4=4 on 23+24.html ..........W....X
0+4=4 on 14+25.html ..........N.....Y
2+2=4 on 15+20.html ..........O.....T
2+2=4 on 12+17.html ..........L......Q
2+2=4 on 2+13.html ............B.....M
3+1=4 on 9+11.html ............I......K
3+1=4 on 5+21.html ............E.....U
3+1=4 on 7+26.html ............G.....Z

What's interesting is that the left column unscrambles to WEB LOG IN....it's a coincidence I'm sure, but an interesting one I thought...and since no one's posting, I thought it might give someone an idea.

Cem,

You're thinking on the same lines I am. Here is what I have come up with. Maybe this too will help someone else. I have many things running thru my mind, so please excuse if I jump around and confuse.

The last letter from psammead was titled "triplet". So the three triplets I found are:

1+6
2+2
3+1

I've been thinking that some of the "equations" equal the first numbers of the corresponding alphabet. What I mean is that one number present alot to be the "1" in 11-19 or the "2" in 21-26 and of course to represent the 1 or the 2 in the 1-9. Here are all the equations, in order, regardless of which page they belong on. I'm trying to find a connection.
There are 32 "equations" in all. So 6 are not as important, if at all.
Red are doubles.
Green are triplets.

0+1=1
0+4=4
0+4=4
0+5=5
0+6=6
0+7=7

1+1=2
1+1=2
1+2=3
1+2+6=10
1+4=4
1+5=5
1+6=7
1+6=7
1+6=7
1+7=8
1+7=8

2+1=3
2+2=4
2+2=4
2+2=4
2+7=9

3+1=4
3+1=4
3+1=4
3+2=5
3+7=10

4+1=5
4+1=5
4+3=7

5+0=5

9+2=11

I counted the numbers in the alphabet (regular, forward) to see how many of each number there is. Here is that list. Nothing matches up with the "equations" above.

There are:

12- 1's
10- 2's
3- 3's
3- 4's
3- 5's
3- 6's
2- 7's
2- 8's
2- 9's
2- 0's

Still searching...

While it may be a coincidence about the anagram, I really think this is the right path. What if this is just saying:
 Code: W=X, N=Y, O=T, L=Q, B=M, I=K, E-U, G=Z

And thats how we would transmute the leftover letters. Okay, so it leaves out a lot of stuff, like the equations on the page itself, but that's my current spec.

Well first I have to complain that in chat, like a week ago, I was "trying" to get folks to look at the html NAMES... but no one caught the bate... so I "have" no answers and am a bit out of the loop due to "real life" but what was bugging me today was folks have "naturally" transposed the equations, horizontally (1+2=3) which isn't the way they are on the pages, AND
Quote: the plus sign has a purpose but it's not to find a sum now find what they become there's one thing that separates the numbers on the page as the same in the name so look for that sign (obviously referring to plus sign) it's there by design and it shows you which ones are the same

So first I was looking at the + as just being a spacer...

AND looking at it vertically as presented...

BUT looking at them vertically there are duplicates.... ARGH!

See the attached file and perhaps it will spark "something".... for "someone"...

As I said, a bit out of the loop and trying to catch up

But that would mean (like you said) that the first letter in the page names would equal the second....and leave the equations out completely. But maybe we have to match up the equations somehow and then use the html names....but that's still not transmuting anything...BAH!!! It is soooooooo hard not to see the "plus sign" as an addition symbol...Why couldn't they use something else? Is there some sort of significance to that particular symbol?

We are told that the "+" sign does not denote addition.
We are also told that the "+" sign shows us which ones are the same.

No numeral in the equations goes above 11. Therefore I don't think any of the numbers in the equations transmute to actual letters.
In other words I don't think we're looking at something like:

H+R.html

I
+B
K

A
+D
E

(although...I've tried it...lol )

But if the numbers in the equations were to equate to the alphabet, why not only go to 8 (thereby assigning one numeral to one letter of ADINGOES)?....or have all the numerical equivalents of the alphabet somewhere in the equations.

So when "psam" says that the "+" sign tells us which ones are the same, what could he be referring to?
The same as what?

Either the equations denote a method of decrypting the same page names on which they are found, or they may point us to a manner in which to order the page names.

Just thinking out loud, please chime in....this seems to be a case of us missing something obvious.

~cem

EDIT: Just for...well...whatever...here are the numbers in the equations with a "+" sign to the left in the order they occur alphabetically.

Quote: If you encounter the Psammead, use cold iron to drive it back in its hole, then bury it deep, and leave a marker so that no one else will awaken it.

I can really identify with the "cold iron/bury it deep" part at this point...lol..

The "Proceed" button is named "Awaken", so I was just googling to try and see if the connection was to the Sand Fairy or the Grey Wethers.

Still trying to see how that "+" sign can show us how the other numbers go...and what about the "sums" themselves...?

Boyz oh boyz, this is driving me to Klepsydra!
