I found myself laughing and being happier during the silliness of this game more than I have in weeks. I need laughter. This makes me happy. I also found people in chat laughing so hard they couldn't stand it. Is this a bad thing?

No, but from what I've read in this thread, half of the silliness has come from the people who think that this game is the Flaming Heart reincarnated. Ehsan's ghosts. Caterpillar's Tigger. Everyone commenting on TTFN. Cortana's emails to Rod. Juxta's Crumbs. That's the only reason why I keep reading this thread - to see what everyone comes up with next to laugh at this.

I understand many other people don't want to play or have anything to do with this game. So now having made that point repeatedly, by threadjacking, writing manifestos, and posting visual graphics- is it necessary to keep repeating it?
Maybe, maybe not. But when over half of the posts are people making fun of it, threadjacking, writing manifestos, and posting graphis - it does make you wonder if actual discussion of the game couldn't be considered a threadjack.

We get the point. You don't like this game. You don't want to forgive the PM for breaking the rules. He should know better! He posted three times in this thread! Very very bad and against the rules. We all get it. He should be shunned and humiliated for making an ill-conceived game and breaking our rules.
Yep.

Now that we all know how people feel, maybe the people who aren't interested can find games they like and want to play. I know PPC just had new cards out, orbital is starting up and some others as well. There are lots of ARGs to occupy people's time and attention, unlike the old days when there was only one game in town.
I did mention earlier it was sad that this was getting more attention than Orbital Colony today. But I fully understand the allure of shredding apart a pathetically put together ARG. It's like popping bubble wrap. Once you start, you just can't stop and it's such a good stress reliever.

Also, am I wrong, or isn't threadjacking something we try to avoid, esp. once a point is made? I know that this forum used to seriously frown on threadjacking-- at least that beyond that necessary to make someone's contempt for a game absolutely clear. And I thought that META discussions were usually put in META and linked from there. Sorry if I broke that (unwritten) rule with this post
I take it you never read the flaming heart thread. That was "threadjacking" at it's finest. I am firmly of the opinion that some movies were made for MST3K and some games were made for our version of it. This is one of those games. A PM who posts his own freewebs trailhead, complete with misspellings, wacky characters, and utter nonsense storyline - and it's not even a parody. If I don't believe that the PM is taking this game seriously, then I don't see why I, or anyone else, should either. And from the posts in this thread, I don't think many people are taking it seriously either.

Now, should we start the betting as to when this is going to implode in a spectacular fashion? My feeling is that Rod is going to die in a car explosion while Max is chatting in IM with someone. Very Happy

No, this is not real. Dork.

Actually, I thought the game was not real, when it was first posted.

If this is an actual attempt at an ARG, I will likely cease any riffing on the various elements.

Piling on is piling on. Ugh.

Then I suppose we need to start another thread for actual discussion of the game. That will solve the problem.

Really, though, what Krystyn said, the validity of game-mocking or playing-alongness is largely dependent on whether or not it's a parody. If it's a serious attempt, I'm all for merciless mocking, because good god. But I'm not sure it's actually possible to be this brand of funny via stupidity.

Also, er, Bergen! Bizarre coincidences! Shocked!

In other news, http://www.freewebs.com/maxfranz/ didn't exist as of a few hours ago, but now it does! And it references Shakespeare!!!

And in really [I hope, please please] unrelated news, my favorite part of this has been the discovery that http://www.freewebs.com/project666 is a straight-faced site about Puerto Rico.

Okay, I'm going to have a stab at my first post on this topic. When I clicked on the link above this post for the "maxfranz" site, one thing ran through my head... "Black Awakening"... is this the same background used in that "game" (notice quotes) or am I seeing things I shouldn't be?

The point being that, although freewebs only gives you a certain number of styles to choose from, I find it quite odd that the PM has chosen this one. One that is associated with, well, something not to be proud of.

Also, we tend to stick with things that we enjoy - channels, types of movies, etc. - and I'm wondering if maybe we are dealing with the same PM as the ill-fated "BA".

Wasn't Black Awakening set in the Yankersland, and this one is set in Pommland? That's one major difference I see. Also wasn't Black Awakening orange and black?

Rules are important, rose, they give these otherwise structure-less games some important boundaries. This game appears to have broken at least one of them, not to mention the atrocious spelling and thin characterizations. If you want to play, by all means do, but I'm not sure we should be rewarding PMs that break the community's rules.

One of the punishments for breaking these rules is community derision. Fair? Perhaps not, but our rules are clear. The punishment, as vulva puppets have made clear in the past, is that we don't suffer fools gladly. Nor should we.

Cortana, I generally feel you on your theories about rules regarding ARGs. I most certainly have issues with people who blatantly ignore the freaking TOS to this very site.

But I have had, and will always have issues with over-use of the word "we."

"We" are a community, but sometimes the discussions surrounding "we" have a slight tinge of "speaking for everyone."

Dun like that much.

I seriously thought the game was a joke game, a spoof, or a parody. Otherwise, I wouldn't have contributed to the pile-on. I am a part of this community, but hell if I want anyone thinking that I enjoyed or supported the whole vulva puppet fiasco, or other related pile-ons. Personally, there are specific behaviors of entitlement I've observed from players that irritate me. It doesn't mean that I don't think those players have a right to feel that way, or to act out. But my membership at Unfiction also doesn't mean I'm sitting on the sidelines, giggling along with it.

I just get a tad twitchy when I see all this "we" bandied about.

Max, if this was a real attempt at a game, and you blatantly absconded with the TOS to launch it, shame on you. If I ever meet you, you just might get a noogie that hurts.

I understand, krystyn, but a hard line approach is written into the history of the community.

I'm sorry if my remarks offend, but they sit well within precedent.

Psh. You yourself push the boundaries of internet etiquette all the damned time in IRC.

Trying to control a community is like trying to tie your shoes with spaghetti.
