reshig.qnc

I got a call as well, but I wasn't there to get it. Freaked out my family in a big way though. I'm pretty sure it was Ray, asking for the matrix password. He hung up after he realized I wasn't around.

I did a little snooping into those files. I did find out that 'reshig.qnc' could signify the acronym for 'Research into Higher Education Abstracts' and I managed to find the abstract that's quoted in the body of the file.

It's from the Process Economics Program Report - a research paper discussing new ways to generate phenol (over 30 years ago!). Anyway, phenol sounds like some crazy stuff...
Quote:
phenol , C6H5OH, a colorless, crystalline solid that melts at about 41°C, boils at 182°C, and is soluble in ethanol and ether and somewhat soluble in water. An aromatic alcohol, it exhibits weak acidic properties and is corrosive and poisonous. Phenol is sometimes called carbolic acid, especially when in water solution. It reacts with strong bases to form salts called phenolates. Phenol is important in industry in the production of certain artificial resins, e.g., Bakelite, and in the synthesis of many drugs, dyes, weed killers, insecticides, and explosives (e.g., picric acid). It is the simplest member of a class of hydroxy benzene derivatives, all of which contain a hydroxyl group attached to a benzene ring; these compounds may be thought of as derivatives of phenol and generically are called phenols.

Is this simply a content filler (another direct quote to take up space)? I hate red herrings.

saw that earlier last weekend, and the thought did cross my mind: why is this in the files of a company that monitors web based terrorism, frauds, etc? it could be a red herring but what a weird one to put in their files!

I knew it!

I knew there had to be something with that RESHIG file!

Contents of phenol.qnc:
Quote:
id doc 53-s-msword: Crane user id string 14-s After using the encription array and decrypter, I have evaluated the RESHIG file. I see no trace of encoding or encryption in this file. They must have been using other phenol based articles/essays. I will keep hunting. sincerely Crane Doc saving .....297sdMS W DOC.

So - there's something encoded in a phenol file huh? Happy hunting!
