The back-up of the VIN jpg

In the My Pictures file in SD3. There are two files

73116.jpg 192Kb
backup of 73116.jpg 196Kb

Why is this the only file with a backup?
Why are the files different sizes?

There are possible answers to these questions (a. It's the most important file. b. Photoshop metadata). However this still might be significant.

I wonder if the file size difference is a clue; there are two files sizes though - space on disk and file size, not sure which is more appropriate. There was another post somewhere that did a diff on the files and just found the metadata and had a txt file of that meta deta. As soon as I get a copy on this PC (dialup) I will open them both in photoshop and see if I can see any differences.

I'm not much for the photo manipulation... but looking at the two vin images in windows photo viewer and it looks like they are slightly different. If you flip back and forth between the two of them and look at the 7 that is mid picture it looks like one shifts the right half over a pixel or two. Anyone else see this?

I did a diff using layers in photoshop and they are 100% the exact same, pixel by pixel.
