Gamejackers

I'm sure this has already been addressed before, but I can't believe how many gamejackers there are. They're so ballsy. Such dedicated roleplayers. This one guy almost has me believing he's Slenderman.

However, I can't imagine him hunched in a little chair typing at a keyboard.

yeah, my series is only a few months old, so I'm not used to it yet. I've had six people trying to be a part of my series thus far. I deleted most of their comments, but it surprises me how dedicated they are. They keep posting. They respond in character if you tell them ooc to stop. Does anyone have a magical way to get rid of them?

Are you sure they're not just posting in game? Cause that's normal...

Hm... I guess I'm just bothered that their quotes conflict with my storyline. I guess I'll just keep ignoring them and referencing their weird comments in my videos.

The proper way to cross over is to first contact via OOG or in an OOG message. Normal gamejackers just roleplay.

Well, if you're really worried about GJ attempts, you may wish to disable comments. I too am sickened by the amount of people all too eager to ruin months of story planning and writing so they can have 15 minutes of fame. Still, to be honest, it kinda sounds like you're being just a bit too paranoid, can I get some more info on what they said? It'll help me help you help me help you. Smile

Well, I've had an encounter with this, but I kind of ignored the comment since it was vague enough that it cause no problem to the story.

If it had gone further I would have deleted it.

Here is the post I'm talking about.

So what you guys prefer is to be contacted OOG? What if there's no way to do that, or if whoever wants to join in can't find your contact information? I've got a blog and would like to have people to interact with, but apparently I can't plug my own series?

A private message on the blog/vlog/whatever with a title saying "OOG Crossover Request!" or something like that would be fine, I'd say if they can't find your contact information. As long as that isn't displayed to the public it should be fine. Then you can get back to them with an OOG email address or whatever and talk it over from there.

The problem is open comments that the public can see that aren't asked for and are forced upon the series. I have a no crossover rule because all of my stuff just doesn't fit with anyone else's stuff, so can you imagine if someone posted on my blog "Oh, no. He's coming to get you. I can help you." without asking me first?

It's an immersion breaker.

I'm not a creator, so maybe I don't belong in this discussion, but promoting your own stuff by trying to get onto the coattails of another series seems like poor taste. A crossover is one thing, but just dropping your own story and links into the comments of another story... how is that cool?

It is different from gamejacking though. Gamejackers aren't just trying to draw attention to their own story, they are trying to take over yours. Imagine if someone set up a twitter account under the name "Mary Asher" (from TT) and started posting as if she was actually a part of the story. That's gamejacking.

That's understandable. It still feels like an attempt at it though as they are trying to influence your story with their characters. It may be some sort of "Lesser Gamejack" rather than a proper one, but it's still unwanted and can feel like one.

All I can say is that at least it only happened to me once (though I did delete a comment that was blatantly advertising a product, not a story).

I might just be imagining it, but I think I've seen that message on other series. I think that's just that guy's way of "inviting" people to a crossover, & he's not trying to be a dick about it.

Is sending a Private Message to the In-game account too much to ask for? I mean it is confidential and no other person but the account holder will see it.

After thinking about it, it's not the comments that bug me the most. What really set me into a rage is that when I messaged them OOC privately they still roleplayed back at me, and they were pretty violent about it. Furthermore, they then copypasted the private message and put it on one of my videos. I understand roleplaying and wanting to play along, but Jesus, if someone sends you an OOC message, don't waste their time. That's like posting in character in these forums. It's just annoying.
