I think what really freaks me out about TO is the fact that the characters of Marble Hornets rarely acknowledge it's existence. When they do, they keep it short, like calling it "It" or "That thing." It's kind of like they'd rather not think about it. Also, the fact that it looks human, but still really inhuman at the same time is just damn unsettling!

This. He can literally go anywhere he wants. He has no weaknesses!

The Operator can find anyone immediately, but doesn't and the mystery of not knowing what The Operator is capable of and specifically, what he does to people he takes.
Marble Hornets also seems so familiar, like I can relate to it somewhat. I used to have creepy surreal daydreams where a tall paragraph sign (¶) would be standing right outside my house and I had the feeling that it would watch me.

Supernatural typography. That's a new one.

The way he moves in Entry #14 and the fact that he's completely still in others. I once said it would be cool if the Slender Man had a little more hustle in a series, but when I think about it that slow pace the Operator takes in #14 (and even in Return) emphasizes that he can show up at any moment and he doesn't have to move around to get to you. It almost gives him character because he's conscious of the fact that no matter where you try to go, you're always in his reach.

Quick question:

When is the name "Operator" first used? I'm on E25 right now (Found MH originally from 30 Rock TV Tropes page then Slender Man and then glorious MH) and I've yet to see the name mentioned other than the totheark video title.

And what makes him freaky? He barely moves, so it's like a manikin (a la Doctor Who) that can move... and teleport... and inflict an undefinable level of psychological torture. Really it's the mystery of it all, that we know so little about him. Not knowing something will always be 10x more scary.

The Operator has not been used in the main series, though there are TTA videos that heavily use the term - namely, the video titled "Operator", "Impurity" (the word appears on screen at the very end in the bottom left corner), "Indicator" (the 0 key of a phone, that says "OPER", is inside the baby doll's eye) and several others.

Also, they've used that term OOG.

You can see the word on Alex's drawings in #11 and #44.

Oh, I'm sure he moves. We just don't see it; after all, the camera stalls every time he comes around.

Plus, we get to see him walk in Return. :O My question is, what kind of camera was Totheark using that didn't get distorted when Slendy was like...right there?

You don't know why he's there. He just is. Or should I say "it" instead? Who knows.

The lack of a face and the fact that he just watches you. What is that asshole up to?

Entry #54, 5:26.

I can no longer ever glance around a room and reassure myself that he's not there. HE WAS RIGHT THERE AND NO ONE SAW HIM.

He could even be behind you. Right now.

Good luck sleeping.

For me, it's the very fact he's totally unnatural. AND HE JUST STANDS THERE. You have no idea why he's doing what he's doing, but you know it's bad, and you know whatever is about to happen is going to be horrifying.

Also, the no face thing is a bit creepy. Actually completely terrifying.

These are called 'The Silence' from Doctor Who. As soon as you look away from them, you forget that they were even there. I don't know if it would be scarier if slendy had that same effect in MH or not and that Jay was just posting tapes of him, not remembering slendy at all.
