How the hell do you "live off of student loans"? You have to pay those back. You don't get to use the money for yourself. :/

My guess is that Slender Man just gave money to Jay *20 dollars joke goes here* during 1st season "door teleportation", so he can play with him some more.

Jay sells items on EBay for insane prices.

These items include half-eaten hamburgers and air guitars.

The Marble Hornets DVD website is really IG. After his house burned down, Jay (the character) got into the merchandise business to pay for a place to live.

To make the product more palatable to the customer, Jay got together with a few of his friends and made some fake special features. He's done it before in Entry 20..

Tharol, I don't think she brought much with her.

I'm glad this thread was brought up since it's something I wondered about all through out season 2. Not that it bothered me or anything but it is something that's kind of interesting to think about. I mead he obviously doesn't have a steady job since he is on the move constantly.

I think the Youtube partnership is the best explanation as how he makes money. I know most will argue that with the number of viewers Marble Hornets has, he wouldn't precisely be able to make a living but he'd still be able to get some decent amount. I mean we don't know what his expenses are but I think it's safe to assume he isn't making any major investments.

^that's a pretty good answer, at least for some of his income.

I was thinking about this the other day, tweets like "finally got a chance to look through the tapes" imply that he has some kind of a life outside of looking at tapes. But he's always changing locations so he can't possibly be holding a steady job...unless he's working from "home". Maybe Jay got lucky and hooked himself up with an online job that pays decent money, in addition to Youtube partnership and maybe the odd job here and there.

Slightly off topic: It seems like Jay bought a smart phone sometime before season 3. Or maybe he always had one and just didn't use it to tweet from closets before.

With gas prices the way they are, Jay'll have to resort to prostitution.

Still my favorite theory.

I heard the answer on an episode of the Simpsons a long time ago and forgot about it:

"I throw myself in front of moving cars and sue the drivers."

That would also explain the time lapse between many of the videos.

"Resort" to prostitution? If you're doing something you love, it never feels like resorting. Wink

Youtube partnership. Basically, Jay gets a paycheck off of these videos, in-game. They end up paying for literally everything. For instance...
They have 27 million video views, with 126000 subscribers. A bit more than that actually. But, regardless. 27. Million. Views. Just on marble hornets.
From this http://bizcovering.com/major-companies/how-much-do-youtube-partners-make/, we find that at the low end, someone makes around 2.50 for every one thousand views. At 27 million views, that's around $67500. 2 years. Given, a hotel every night kinda would suck hard for money, but he is shown sleeping in his car a few times. And he might have money sitting around from insurance on apartment goods, as well as other things. So, let's say Jay, spends around $50 a night on a hotel. He doesn't sleep in one every single night. Let's say he spends around 3.5 days a week on average in a hotel. Around that. Again, to simplify things, let's say he does this 52 weeks a year(possibly not true as he could crash in the woulds and be part masky or something) for 2 years. Ultimately, he spends around 365 days in a hotel, give or take. That's 18,250. He could be recycling tapes. As well, credit cards and stuff. Ultimately, he could be doing pretty damn well. Ish.

And the ore you view him, the more you help him kill himself ultimately.
