Case study on How real can it get?

Dear all,

Your contribution is needed.

I am writing a case study on How real the ARG can get? Following the basic ARG description that ARG is "is an interactive narrative that uses the real world as a stage for telling a story, playing out a scenario or creating a learning experience”. " (John Feser) I am trying to analyse the movie by David Fincher "The Game", which was actually an inspiration for one of the first ARGs "The Beast", and see if it would work in practice...

I would appreciate if you share your unmeasured experience in this field and contribute with your knowledge trying to find an answer if "The Game" was ever topped up by any real life ARGs and if not, why you think it is impossible.

Actually any ideas regarding this subject are welcome...

 		The premise of "The Game" is certainly something that, given a large enough budget, could certainly be achieved. Would it ever be ran as an ARG? Conceivably, yes, if, as in "The Game", someone was paying large sums for it to happen, but I'd imagine that it would be one heck of a health and safety/litigation minefield in practice.

 		... but then, can "The Game" by David Fincher be called ARG? Because Nicholas (Michael Douglas) is solving the puzzles on his own... so there is no collective intelligence involved... and they do not use any digital media... apart from TV. I know it's 1997, but there was internet and blogs and e-mails... tho, he is using payphone...

 		A handful of west coasters have actually been doing a variant of "The Game" since long before the movie, leading me to suspect the film might have been inspired, at least in part, by something that is extremely real. See shelbylogansrun.com for a runthrough of one year's iteration, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_(treasure_hunt) for information about the game in general.

Tho, the first time I heard about this game's connection to the movie was a post on message board in imdb, no official sources would mention The game as inspiration to the movie, tho, it is quite obvious from the title...

 		Consumer Recreation Services. That would really be interesting if something actually existed like that, but that game was too close to real-some scary stuff there.
