To stalk or not stalk
Gaming ethics!

Let's say I found someone in the Interaction Thread , how unethical/downright illegal would it be for me to contact them in another way than using the information presented? Would I be using my Google Fu for evil?

It's something that could get you into various amounts of trouble; But, if you aim to misbehave...
How does their Interaction post come off? Do they seem like they'd be receptive to other means of immersion?
Did/could your research give you more info about the subject and whether the cops will be talking to you about your conduct where minors are concerned?
And, you really do need to ask yourself,

Self... Am I really just being a stalker?

Oh sweet Jesus no, it wasn't a minor! As far as hypothetical persons go..

And thank you, you made some good points.

Once upon a time there was an ARG that had a sign-up sheet where you could indicate your desired level of immersion, from 1 to 'I will come to your house and bother you'.

Since it can be difficult to present such a thing ahead of time without tipping your hand a little (and the game in question never happened) might I suggest that you use story elements to let your players tell you how far they are willing to go? Give them opportunities to GIVE you information about who they are, where they live, and so on, if they want to. (Then wait until they've forgotten about it.)

In a similar vein, is it appropriate to the story/characters for you to be stalking the players?

Personally, I would be super creeped out if someone came to my house and bothered me, but that's why I never give out a full address.

Are you talking about "Aware"? I was just thinking about it the other day.

I've made a real life puzzle for the trailhead and the stalking was just about the drop, not a continuous thing during the whole game. I also wanted to create a character that would help the players if they got stuck. I'm trying to think around it, but right now I'm just banging my head against the wall. Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it.

And yes, I realise that I come off super creepy with this post. Smile
