re: the 13:05 axon
I'm 99.9% positive I've got the location right. Using the payphone-directory/geocode lookup method results in the exact coordinates on ILB and points to a Steak 'n' Shake. However, if you dial the number listed on payphone-directory, you get a recording saying the number is no longer in service. The Steak 'n' Shake has payphones (one inside and one outside), but neither matches that number and neither has been called at the appointed time (i've tried twice). Looks to me like the phones have been changed since payphone-directory got its data.
In short, i think the 13:05 axon is dead.

We tested calling out to our cell phones from the payphone, and the signal was clear and strong. However, when we tried to call the payphone from our cells, answering it gave a recording saying "Error 48" (or possibly "38" or "58") and then it would disconnect immediately. We tried calling the customer service number posted on the phone to find out what that error message meant, but they were singularly unhelpful.
I did a search and found this site that talks about phone errors
http://www.hackcanada.com/canadian/payphones/intellicall-codes.txt
the errors in question,
48 Low activity, Direct LCD
58 Read call counters failed Communications error.
dosent mention an error 38 unfortunatly
i dont know if this is usefull or not but there it is....

I did not have time to attempt this location today, but when I went back for the 17:55 axon, I scoped this out. I have identified 4 likely phones that should be covered. Attached is a map indicating the phone locations. There are also phones 2 blocks south and more farther north, but let's hope we dont have to travel that far.
I met Wynn and two others to try to get this one, and between the four of us we managed to cover all the pay phones on the block. The only problem was, none of them rang. There are some payphones south of the block the coordinate is on, but none of us who were there can get there at 11:41 on a weekday/workday. The other problem is that the coordinate is on a busy street full of shops and restaurants, so every block has multiple payphones on it--not sure if we'd be able to cover all of them, since some of the coordinates appear to be off by several blocks.
Anyway, this one will probably be cold for a while. But props to Wynn for getting two of the other Seattle axons.
Thanks to devolver and Shnitzle and his lady, we were able to cover all 4 likely phones. Unfortunatley, no call came.
Here is an updated map along with another block north that I scouted out. I located only one additional phone that rings that might be the axon. There are some phones further south as well, but I couldn't find a likely target (although I didn't scout south as much). The only other possibility I can think of is a branch library 1 block west. I don't know if there are any pay phones in there, since it was closed Sunday and saturday night when I walked by.
It is extremely unlikely I would be able to try for either of the remaining Seattle axons before next weekend. Something about a job gets in the way.

Met someone who told me about these forums at the 16:47 Palo Alto location with no phone. Just adding some stuff. There is a payphone at the Rinconada pool, but it did not ring when the time came. Palo Alto is quite large, but if the theory that the coordinates are right on the city but off by a few places then we need to find out every payphone in Palo Alto. There has to be a way to do this, through phone companies who provide them perhaps. If we get all of those, then we can try and mark them off one by one. I would be willing to try and get out every day to a different one, but there needs to be more people willing to help out. I know a few of you on these forums will probly help, but if we get a few more people and keep branching out we might be able to get this thing done.

androshandrew there are probably a few thousand payphones in Palo Alto. Random will not do it. If Melissa has not got the coordinates right then she will have to find a better one. Don't waste your time.

DC has two coordinates at the Natural History Museum.
6:07 PDT is before the museum opens, so people have focused on street phones - the closest one is broken, no dice at other ones farther away. I think this one should be abandoned.
HOWEVER
Has anyone been trying the 8:15 PDT at the museum? Checked out the phones inside? I haven't heard any reports about these attempts. Help your fellow players eliminate phones that have been covered, guys!

Sorry if this isn't the place for it, but I'm a lurker with a question:
Perchance is there anyone still trying to activate the Connecticut axons? I haven't heard the story as to why all three are still cold. I would go out myself, but I rather lack a car- and they're two hours away.
If there's any interested beekeepers located at UConn or in the general area, especially ones with cars, we could get an expedition (or three) going to go nail these axons. Any takers?
What the...? Did no one see my post? Ergh, anyway are they STILL cold? I think I could get to them.

by inputting the coordinates into terraserver , you can get an overhead view of the location. Then, by saving the image, and manipulating it (even in a program such as MS paint) you can overlay text or dots or such. Then, voila! A great little overhead map tool to list where (in reality) all the region's payphones reside.

Who got the Appalachian Trail axon?
8:27 PDT
(It was the one that was 360K SW of NY, otherwise known as near the Viginia/West Virginia border, outside Leesburg.)
Was there really a phone out there? (mapquest notes that portions of the last 2.3 mile stretch on Appalachian Trail Rd. are unpaved)

I agree, I think the 13:05 (Reflected) is dead. Before I even found Puck's message, I checked the address/coordinates on my own and was pretty sure it's that one at Steak 'n' Shake. After it failed to ring when I tested it, I checked around the area but found no other payphones that accepted incoming calls. So much for my only chance to contribute..

Its interesting to hear... doesn't really help much though x_X
Is there anyway we could get the AXON to move? Is talking about it on message boards enough?

9:29 PDT code_nothing HOT. This site was previously a dud and was cancelled in round 1 (11:53). The payphone-directory had the wrong phone# and it never rang.
Soo, I posted the correct phone# here and sent the correct # to the payphone-directory (where is was also updated), and today it rang.
Melissa's watching us guys.
So, if you have axons that are wrong and you can prove it, do so. If there is a next round, it will be an easy "hot".

Let's move this to the new axon threads. Make this just about the old set.
