I chuckled when I saw the glass cracker jars because I've had one for a few years. You can get 'em at the Container Store. $5

It's not like your point doesn't have merit, but it could be a discussion, rather than, you know, drive-by moralizing. It'll be interesting to see what story today's capsules will tell.

Actually my first post was on impulse, and I simply didn't want it to turn into a drawn-out troll fight.

Alright, then the conversation can remain on a fairly level platform. I do understand the the stereo type of a "JAWS" frame of mind. Double check the reports to see how many of the victims were attacked by sharks. Do you find any notice that sometimes the people who were attacked had an injury of some kind? I know of two friends who were attacked by sharks. Both were dumb enough to have a cut or scrape releasing blood into the water, and as you know, that's one of the ways the sharks hunt. Since that bit of information was left out of the reports, that allowed others minds to think the sharks attack without provocation, when it was really the fault of the victims. That was to show you where I stand on the matter. To me, as I said, the perpetuated stereotype exists due to the fear, the "JAWS" mentality, if you will. Personally, the few attacks were, in my opinion that the sharks were just being what they were designed for. It can go wither way.

Oh, and a few more minutes until coordinates are ready.

Living on the coast, all of my life, I've known a few folks that got nibbled on, as well. It's usually more that you look like prey that gets things started. I don't put a lot of weight in the the blood theory due to lack of evidence that it contributes and that after a good nibble, the diver is typically let go. Fish and aquatic mammal blood in the water is another story, altogether.

There's also a difference between coastal sharks and their deep-water cousins. Indianapolis survivors don't blame the sharks for the carnage they endured, but having heard the screams of their shipmates getting picked-off and not just slipping quietly under the waves, they'll tell you that the JAWS mentality has it's roots in fact.

I still say it's just sharks doing what they do.

Actually, if I remember correctly, those rascals over at Discovery Channel stated in a special that most sailors died from exposure and not due to shark attacks (tsk tsk Discovery). From what I've read the sharks only ate sailors that had already died. To be sure I imagine a few were picked off while living but most first person accounts indicated that the sharks only took men that were already dead or dying.

As I wasn't there though, who knows, just wanted to point out that in this instance the Discovery Channel actually defended sharks. Cool

Dang it all!!! This is taking too long. I swear, I need to get to sleep, I think I'm starting to hallucinate from sleep deprivation. Anyone else see the jars on the site shifting every other refresh? Or is that just me?
