It is:

Eridanus the River.

On Earth

Eridanus is one of Greek astronomer Ptolemy's original 48 constellations. Homer called it the 'Ocean Stream', but the river it is thought to represent on Earth has been lost in the mists of time. It may have been the Sumerian Strong River, also known as Ariadan. The rivers Tigris, Euphrates, Po, Ganges and Nile have each been identified as the Eridanus by various cultures.

Mythology

The constellation Eridanus represents the erratic passage taken by the Sun chariot one day when Helios (the Sun god) allowed his son Phaėton to take the reins. Phaėton convinced his father that he was strong enough to control the horses, but he was not. The result was that the Sun swung so high the Earth almost froze, then so low that parts of Africa, which had been lush, were frazzled and the skins of the populace scorched. This is how the ancient Greeks explained the ebony skin of Ethiopians.

Obviously this calamity caused mass panic and, to prevent the destruction of the Earth, the great god Zeus hurled a thunderbolt at the Sun chariot. Phaėton was killed by the blow and his body tipped out, falling into the river Eridanus below. Phaėton's grieving sisters, Aegiale, Aegle and Aetheria2, who had encouraged their brother in his misadventure, were morphed into poplar trees. Still weeping tears turned to amber by the Sun, the trees are said to grow along its banks.

Perhaps one of those?!

I'm thinking the mythology has a lot to do with this one... since the constellation is connected to the myth.

In addition to 40 Eridani (a/k/a omicron-2 Eridani and Keid, I believe) there's the nearby G-class star, epsilon Eridani.

Here's my thought though... if l/di/t etc. is hidden (where?), remember the background image at johannbayer.eu?

The columns of Romulan characters. The middle column has a small "km" in one space. That could be a distance. I just don't know what to make of that third column E X P, or whatever it might be. But those three columns of characters might finally be involved?

What about -04/17/09? That seems to fit l/di/t. Anything happen on 4/17/09?

Adjust the levels in the original image and they become visible in the lower left hand corner. This here a version that should show it more clearly:

Eridanus the River.

Raphael, if you haven't already, you should ask them what their "objective here on earth" is. Is it a place they're trying to get to, or a specific goal. And how does a constellation relate to it?

From Wiki.Read the last line!
Any connection??

[edit] Supervoid
The Eridanus Supervoid is the largest supervoid (an area of the universe devoid of galaxies) discovered as of 2007[update]. At a diameter of about one billion light years it is much larger than any other known void and represents a challenge for current theories of the origins of the universe to explain. It was discovered by linking a "cold spot" in the cosmic microwave background to an absence of radio galaxies in data of the US National Radio Astronomy Observatory's Very Large Array Sky Survey.[1] There are also suggestions that the void may due to Quantum entanglement between our universe and a Parallel universe.[2] [3] [4]

Most valued?

So jealous. XD No-one even sends me email anymore!!

I want to know why they think that star arrangement is important to them. Did they find the name somewhere? Or the image? Who is that code hidden in the image from? CTT or whoever CTT got it from?

I think those are the stars/planets on the webcam thing at bayer.eu. Me and Aliotsy knew some of the stars we just.. err.. kinda... missed the involvement they had with this constellation.

*hangs head in shame*

Why they put the hidden text in the image though, I have no idea. I did email them back asking them about it, but no reply yet. I think the help we need now will come from another source, possibly Twitter.

One of our "we're not IG honest" friends? XD

I had LeBarre follow me on twitter yesterday. It made me feel all warm, fuzzy and connected, lol. He and colgado are still going on about Romulan alphabets... I wonder why?

If it is 40 Eridani, Google Sky lists its position as

4h 15m 16.30s -7 39' 10.00

Star Trek folklore has the distance as 16 light years. (16.45)
