I did a little more sprucing up on the journal page, so here are the front and back versions. Maybe someone can make something out. There's plenty I think I see, but nothing that appears to make any sense.

Okay so I think that PostLarval has already figured this out based on his walk, but using Google maps and streetview, I've been trying to match the pictures from FB with a likely route:

So, in the original picture order, with the 'word' and a tag for the content (rather than reposting the pictures):

img1: "the" (bridge)
img2: "want" (shark)
img3: "to" (pond/sign)
img4: "find" (bridge/sign)
img5: "the" (fencepost)
img6: "to" (bridge/bird)
img7: "got" (no alcohol)
img8: "you" (pond/tree)
img9: "if" (phone booth)
img10: "beyond" (dock)
img11: "you" (dog box)
img12: "surface" (fence/ground)
img13: "truth" (rocks/cat)
img14: "scratch" (road/tree)

Based on my googling, I think that it makes more sense if the intended message is supposed to read:

"If you want to find the truth, you got to look beyond the surface."

That makes the order of the pictures:
img9, img11, img2, img6, img4, img1, img13, img8, img7, img3, img14, img10, img5, img12

This starts near the Dana Hotel and ends up at the picture of the spot of ground next to the fence (which is on Vacation Isle), which in chat we agree certainly seems like a good place for something to be hidden.

Penny wrote a Facebook blog on Ivan's account, which you have to be a friend to see:

Quote:
A short helloShare
Hello everybody,

I couldn't login to our email account from my aunts home, but facebook works very well here and at least I can get in touch with you here.

We are done with the birthday lunch and Neena and her friends are now playing hide and seek in my aunt's garden. This allows me to sit down for a few minutes. I know I said that I want to get rid of all the memories of the last days - just for the weekend, but truth is that I can't.

I wonder why Mr. Krotzler left his note on the back of this page which he took from his page-a-day calendar:

Front: http://www.ivankrotzler.com/photos/front.jpg
Back: http://www.ivankrotzler.com/photos/back.jpg

Well, the kids are calling.

See you soon

Before I even begin to tackle all of the new info received yesterday- here's my recap of The Walk.

Knowing the area fairly well, I decided to start at the Dr.'s 'office' and work my way over to the bridge, then across to the island (Vacation Island for any google mappers).

The first thing I found, right behind The Dana, was the phonebooth. Gave it a full inspection, in full sight of a lot of staff and guests, found nothing, but got a lot of strange looks Wink There's a path along the waterfront that leads to the bridges, so I followed that. In passing a fishing supply store I found the shark, then saw the caution sign as I walked across the bridge. Got to the other side and headed toward the park, since I'd recognized the picture of the model boat pond and knew right where it was. On the way I saw the rocks where the cat photo was taken. Passed by the pond and headed toward a parking lot (the one in the photo) where I thought the dock might be. Found the dock, and was actually surprised to find that the photo of the fences was right there.

This is where things went awry. After following the Dr.'s entire path, spotting nearly every landmark, inspecting each one obsessively, and looking for anything that might yield a clue along the way... I couldn't find the last spot. The shot of the ground, which looked like it should be right along that same fence, and seemed like it would be the best place to dig (if we take 'scratch beyond the surface' literally). I walked up and down the fence a dozen times, searched every spot that looked like it might be hiding something, but none stood out to me as being the one in the photo. I dug the hell out of the ground where the first fence pic was taken, but came up with nothing. In the end, as far as treasure goes, all I discovered was an old porno mag, two right-footed sandals, a rusted crutch, and three stray kittens.

Still, not a bad haul for a days work Laughing

Now, after walking the whole thing, I think it's even more likely that something's out there. The photos follow a clear, direct path, starting at the doctor's office and leading to a very secluded area. When you place all the photos in order, from start to finish of the walk, it definitely explains the order in which we should arrange the decoded words. As danteIL suggested, they spell out: "If you want to find the truth you got to scratch beyond the surface".

So we have a path followed by the Doctor on the last day he's known to have made contact, a collection of photos that end with a shot of the ground in a secluded area, and a code that tells us to scratch beyond the surface to find the truth... it seems like a fairly clear suggestion to find that spot and dig. A lot more clear than the barcode puzzle.

Still- we've got so much info atm, I don't know what's important and what isn't Confused Either way I'll head back out there, if not to find the doc's body than at least to feed the kittens Smile

Post Larval, when are you hitting the route again? Looks like our next clue is burried there somewhere.

Current thought is perhaps the diagram on the top of the journal page is a map of Krotzler's walk, and the poor, sick looking bird is actually the seagull. PostLarval is there now checking it out, so he will have a report later on. Buried treasure? Buried dog parts? Buried office assistants? The suspense is killing me.

Awesome job comrade. Sounds like it was recorded in the back of a car. Dude she's a psycho. Why is she out in society?

So it turns out, trying to complete a treasure hunt using a 1" cell phone screen to view your mapped landmarks is NOT the greatest idea.

With an 8.5" x 11" full color glossy shot of the frakkin' GROUND in my hand, as well as gloves, a shovel, and a bag of kitty food, I headed back out to the Dr.'s last known whereabouts today in search of... well, whatever the hell that whackjob buried there.

I ended up exactly where I was Friday. Where I'd already dug a dozen holes. You see, in the photo posted on the Dr.'s Facebook there was a very prominent BRANCH visible... the only thing I could make out on the aforementioned 1" screen. That branch- yeah, not still there. I did, however, stumble upon two teenagers who were very much enjoying themselves, in what they'd thought was a very secluded area of the park. They kindly moved on as the wild-eyed guy in gloves with a shovel explained he had to do some digging, related to a possible murder. Wink

So I dug. Again. Everywhere I didn't dig before, which made for quick work... and voila. A new micro-cassette recorder and a new (even more disturbing) message.

Here's a few shots of it all... the rest can be found on my flickr

Let me see if I can put up the transcript...

Quote:
Woman's Voice: That episode in the hotel wasn't the first time. It started much earlier than that but I never experienced anything so...so...surrealistic...so...convincing.

THERAPIST: When did it all start?

Woman's voice: It's hard to know where to begin...I'd say the symptoms started when I was a child.

THERAPIST: Tell me about your childhood.

Woman's voice: Well, my father was a G.I. He fought for the allies and stayed in Berlin. He was a DJ of the American Forces Network for a while. Women loved him and he was a bit of a local hero. Anyway, he had a string of blonde dalliances in the back room of a military casino and one of his many girlfriends got pregnant...her name was Laura, she was from Berlin and the baby was me.

THERAPIST: Um...I see. I noticed you mentioned your father first...

Woman: He died when I was 8. My psychiatrist says the accident was the first traumatic event of my childhood.

THERAPIST: What accident?

Woman: My father died in a military hospital. It was a straightforward appendectomy(?) but he developed a blood clot and no one thought of giving him compression stockings and the thrombosis was fatal.

THERAPIST: Dreadful. How did you cope with your father's death?

Woman: Very, very badly. We lived in an end of terrace house near Andrew Barracks in the American Sector. We adopted a mongrel, a stray called Terry who lived in our backyard and our father couldn't stand him and banned him from the house and most of the time he was tied up on a leash by the door and I remember Mom telling me that the operation had gone wrong and as soon as she left the house I fetched one of dad's baseball bats...a heavy one made of metal...and I went into the yard. Terry's leash was so short that he could hardly move, let alone run away...his legs buckled as soon as I hit him but I could see him whimpering and groveling on the ground but I didn't stop. I kept hitting him and hitting him...I was 8 years old and out of my mind with fury and hurt. And after about 10 blows I must have snapped his spine and he lay there howling in agony and coughing up blood and I battered him to a pulp. He didn't even look like a dog when I was finished.

THERAPIST: What made you do it?

Woman: I loved my father more than anyone in the world and Terry came next. For some reason, I got it into my head that I didn't want Terry if I couldn't have my dad. I was punishing him for being alive.

THERAPIST: It must have been very distressing.

Woman: It was...but not for the reason you think.

THERAPIST: I beg your pardon?

Woman: The story doesn't end here. I lost my father and beat an innocent dog to death. But that wasn't what really upset me.

THERAPIST: No?

Woman: What upset me was that Terry didn't exist. I made him up. We adopted a cat, but never a dog. I still have nightmares about what I did to Terry, but I know it was a product of my delusion...my illness.

THERAPIST: When did you find out it wasn't real?

Woman: Much later. I started seeing a therapist when I was about 18 and after a while, the truth came out. It was the first time I summoned the courage to mention it to anyone. I didn't want people knowing that I murdered my dog--they would only think I was crazy.
