is irc.chat-solutions.org dead? I tried using mibbit and it said "dead".

It certainly isn't. Mibbit is sometimes a little funny with addresses, try irc.chat-solutions.org:6667 (both options work when I just quickly tried, but maybe the longer one will work for you)

Try different ports, as well.
7000 or 8000 someimes work when the stndard ones don't.

Thanks! This mibbit interface is weird but it's working from my weekend job. Will be interesting to see if it works from my week day job (that has the firewall from hell).

For Mac OS X, try Adium. Opensource development with latest current update on 9/7/2008.

Adium doesn't do IRC, sadly. I like Colloquy.
