Celebrating 3 years of MU: Presenting the MU Archives Book As you may or may not know, it is exactly three years ago today that Project MU , aka Metacortechs ended. For a lot of regular unFiction visitors, this was their first ARG and the game that brought them to this community.
To show their appreciation for the game and out of thanks to the MU PMs, two years ago, a group of players also known as the Metaurchins presented an online archive , a players' account of two months of gameplay, tension, curiosity and exploration. This "book" has been praised by some as an excellent resource for both new players and new PMs, because it shows an insight into player experience that is pretty unique.
Now, to celebrate the three years that passed since MU, we're proud to announce that the MU Archives book is now available in a stunning, full-color print version through the online printshop lulu.com. As a tribute to (and with full permission of) the MU PMs, the 218-page full-color book is a nearly identical version of the online archives. As of now, it is on sale through Lulu's online shop (click here) for the price of $39.99 (or €32,19), which is a slight percentage above cost-price. As a thanks to the three years or longer that most MU players spent on unFiction, all proceeds of the sale will benefit unFiction's donations fund!
I hope you will enjoy the book at least as much as its online version, and I can really recommend it to anyone who would like to reminisce over things of the past, learn about player experience from a non-professional angle, or read up on the evolution of a player-base over the course of (what I still think of as) one of the most gripping and exciting ARGs ever to be made.
This launch of the print-version of the MU Archives would not have been possible without the hard work that xnbomb put into this project, so I very much would like to thank him for all the hard work. Also a lot of thanks to yanka who edited and launched the original online version, and to all the Metaurchins who have contributed!

There's a (albeit low-quality) preview version available on lulu.com, here . Ignore the graininess of the pics, that's just because they are a preview. We've extensively sampled the print-version before finalising the project, and it looks absolutely superb!

Agreed. Those artifacts in the preview are simply not there in the real version. Everything is sharp and glossy and very, very impressive.
The Metaurchins totally frakking rule.

Wow guys... I had no idea you had put this into an actual book. Congratulations!
Previewing the first few pages brought back some awesome memories. I think I'll put in my order when I get my paycheck later this week.

Five years later ... We've now just passed the five-year anniversary of the beginning of Project Mu, and my memories are just as fond.
It's also been a little under two years since the Project Mu Archives book was released. On that topic, I have good news and bad news:
The Good News - You can still get a copy of this 218-page full-color recounting of the experience for $39.99.
The Bad News - That price will be going up to $49.99 on or about October 28, 2008. Why is that, you ask? The reason is that Lulu is raising their per page production cost for full-color books from $0.15 per page to $0.20 per page. This has raised the production cost for The Project Mu Archives by $10.87 (the binding cost actually dropped $0.03, though ... woo). With that in mind, we have to raise the price on the book.
So, if you ever had an inkling that you wanted to buy a copy of The Project Mu Archives, I would suggest you do so before October 28th, and save yourself $10. And if you do so, your contribution to unFiction will be larger than it will be if you buy one after the price goes up, because we are knocking $0.87 off that price increase. So get 'em while they're cheap.
