 		The Pini Society
Wiser dropped a link in IRC to The Pini Society. According to the Pini Society web site, it was a secret society founded in 1854, whose members found Machu Picchu, translated the Epic of Gilgamesh, reached the poles, and probably had great accents. It went dormant after WWII, and was just resurrected by a descendent of its founder.

All right, sounds normal, right? But, uh, yeah, the Society doesn't seem to exist outside of this web site. The web site is pitching a video game, which would generally seem to be the end of story. Make a video game, put up a web site. Nothing to see here.

Except...a guy named Kambiz Kamrani, owner of (the definitely real) site anthropology.net, got a package in the mail from the society. The enclosed note reads (emphasis added):

My name is Rebecca Jayne and I am the sole living descendant of a long line of explorers, relic hunters and archeologists. Six years ago when my grandmother passed away, she left me a collection of maps, records and photographs of worldwide expeditions and explorations from the nineteenth century. She also wrote of a once great organization — The Pini Society — whose members dedicated their lives to the discovery, study and preservation of the greatest treasures of ancient mankind.

I've decided to use a game to tell the story as I've pieced it together thus far. I believe, though, that there is more to be uncovered. With your help and the help of other like-minded individuals, we can uncover important truths and treasures which have been lost to time.

So...ancient secrets lost to time? A secret society with secrets? A remarkably nice web site? Gamezebo treats the Society as real - which it clearly isn't. Also, it should be noted that Ms. Jayne has a web presence - a YouTube account and a Wikipedia account, with which she edited several pages to include information about the Pini Society (all of which were reverted).

I alas cannot run the game now as I have a Mac (Win2K, WinXP, and Vista only). So I can't tell you what it's like. But everything looks suspicious, y'know?

 		Hey everyone, I've been lurking around unforums for a few weeks and thought I'd jump in on this game, considering my obsession with Indiana Jones and all things history.

So I was thinking, the word we need to get membership is the answer to the question

There's a picture of the roman forum on the About the Society page. Is it possible there's some hidden information in that picture? Is it stegged or whatever that word is? This looks to be pretty high-budget, but maybe they really do want us to download the game. Then again once someone takes the leap, they can just play through to episode six and let the rest of us know... Wink

 		Here is what I've found out so far:

Splash screen indicating that the demo is limited to a total of 60 minutes, and the full version costs US$19.95. I find it very annoying that this information is not readily obtainable from the official website.

The game itself is in the mosaic / tile genre. It is similar to puzzle inlay. Rotate, drag and drop the squares and triangles into the appropriate spaces. Contrary to an existing review of the game, it does not feature tangram pieces. There are also a few mini games.
Overall, I was not impressed and did not like the game. Sad
