I've been zooming into a few of the locations around the central virginia area that I know about where they are.
One is a Walmart.
One is a mall.
One is on the virginia beach strip.
One is in the Colonial williamsburg historical park.
Strange.
AFter the first two, I thought "Gee, I hope this isn't just a list of resellers of the game..." But the second two don't match.
It does seem that each point I've looked at is precisely on a road.
[edit]The closest points to Fredricksburg seem to be in Dale City... at Potomic mills. :/
Anyone else have Mappoint and want the files?

the ones in san francisco are seriously only blocks from each other.
same with the ones in berkeley.
could be a network of infected hosts or ip routings.
ill check the close ones out after work for geocaches, if nothing else proves what these coords are.

Solved:
38.8918, -77.0261 is the Smithsonian Institute. This is located in between the Capitol and the Washington monument on the Mall
Edit: btw, I have emailed the entity.

The seventh thing I noticed was that Texas was completely empty. There's a location at Fargo, fer heaven's sake, but nothing in Texas? Is this a political statement?
More seriously, perhaps we're meant to connect the dots, so to speak, between Dana's last message and this. Mayhaps we need to calculate the distance between each point tuple?

Ok, here's a list of 220 places. I wrote a quick script to nick them off topozone.com.

Ok, here's the Chicago and suburbs thereof locations listed:
Two are on Clark Street between Diversey & Burling
(interesting that there are two on the same block!)
One is at Kinzie & Wabash
One is on Wacker Dr., near the crossunder of Quincy
Finally, there's one in Elmhurst (NW suburb about 20 mins away, and about 15 mins away from me) at the corner of George and York Road.
That's all the ones close enough to drive within an hour of Chicago or so...

At the top of the list of coordinates sits a smaller version of the timer, which kinda makes me think that IF anything is there to see, it will be there on august 24th, and not now...
Interpreting it storywise, it seems that the metastasizing meant that it looked for "points of interest" to duplicate itself to, the process of which will be finalized on august 24?

33.7943 -84.3874 is in Atlanta literally 2 minutes from where I live and work, so it's possible that we're being mapped, but I'm sure there are more people in Atlanta than I that have emailed ladybee777SPLAT hotmail.com.
Anyway, the coordinates point to the intersection of two fairly major roads in the city, or at least very nearby. I'll go check it out after work and find out what's really there.

Something that just hit me... there's a lot of mention of coordinates being in malls, stores, airports, etc. Could it be they are locations of public phones? That would be awesome... if all of them got a call on august 24

It appears that only one point is not on land. It is off the california coast.

What do you think? It isn't major cities - Dallas is missing.
I don't think that four decimals is going to be enough to pinpoint a specific location to visit, for GPS coords.
Bah. Beat me to it!

Yours is certainly the better map, too, but mine still looks rather spangly. Plus I did mine with regexps and Celestia!

[*edit: Disregard- PMs typo'd, 33 is now 37. Not in ocean. Have a nice day]
33.8669 -122.2588 is in the middle of the ocean.
As per my previous post, I've tried finding decent satellite images to confirm there isn't an island there.
Here's the link (i've left it untiny as you can alter the address to any coords you may want to see.)

Anyone live near there?
