ARG Mortuary So, now that i have my own website, I've been looking for so-called "content" to add to it...
Well, I was sitting in IRC having a discussion in #lostring with konamouse, HitsHerMark, and endercoaster... and an idea (!) occurred...
Quote:
<endercoaster> basically, if they ask me to do anything that will contribute to animals being killed, I'm out.
<konamouse> ender, doubtful that will occur
<konamouse> we try to not kill anything in ARGs (except fictional characters)
<SirQuady> fictional characters we kill off in droves
<SirQuady> hmm, wonder if it'd be possible to creat an ARG morituary listing all the characters that have died in ARGs?
After a little more discussion, I realized something...
I'm going to create this ARG Mortuary.
What? - A listing of all the characters that have died in ARGs of the past. With more elaborate info about main characters, and such, but with a full listing of smaller characters.
Why? - To tabulate the total number of character deaths we've had occur in ARGs! Also: because the deaths of characters of sad, and we need a place to memorialize them! And stuff!
Now, some of you are probably thinking to yourself, "That's great SirQuady, but why are you telling me this?". Others might be thinking about food or possibly sex, I don't know.*
What I need from you is a listing and a numbering off of dead characters from each ARG you've played. (estimated numbers are fine, as i hear that the entire earth has been destroyed in at least one ARG). This can be little ARGs, big ARGs, even ARGs that imploded if they got far enough to kill off characters. If you aren't sure a character counts, just say so! (I'm still working on the criteria for Mortuary inclusion right now). If you want to include a short description of the character and why she/he/it needs to be memorialized, that'd be awesome, but it is in no way necessary.
Also, players killed off in the course of an ARG do count.
Ok, thanks!
*because clearly, people only think about food and sex

Lets' see if I can get the Sammeeeees list started.
Barney (original Sammeeeee, Betty's boyfriend, reincarnated as a Dog who helped us in Sammeeeees II)
Jennifer (original White Rose, taken by Spoocheeeee when we were unable to meet her in San Francisco)
Dr Kinder (the psychiatrist, killed by Mr Alan Johnson)
Mr Abbott (the torturer who killed Barney, also killed by Mr Alan Johnson)
Dalton Trumbo (communist Spoocheeeee Elder, died while "dancing" with Patricia)
The Twins (George & Jack - killed by Spoocheeeee black ops)
Dick White (founder of the White Roses)
Addison (original Sammeeeee, tried to infiltrate the temple of the Eidolon, but really died from a broken heart after the death of his wife and child)
Tutu (Trinket's sister, taken by Spoocheeeee long ago)
Mr Alan Johnson (the evil villian, killed by Patricia, reincarnated as the Eidolon and locked forever in a torture cell by Mithras)

Perplex City had a number of fatalities (mostly murders). There's some info on the PXC wiki "Main Characters" page :
Pietro Salk
Isaac Cymbalisty
Anna Heath
Bernardo Holyoke
Monica Grand
Miranda Katsoulis
Raul Levenay
Fran Mendling
I know there's more, but I can't remember them at the moment

Findings Cedar Rapids...
Steven Chalmers... obituary can be found HERE
Jeff - speculated, never confirmed...
Project Ophiuchus... (still going)
Participant13 - that's all we ever knew him by
Kral - He was only mentioned once (maybe he was Participant13?)
You might wanna go over to The Purgatorium Forums to find out their deceased. I don't believe they hang out on UF too much. I might be wrong. I think quite a few characters have died on that one.

Urban Hunt - at one point in the game, we THOUGHT the character of Ron Daubert was dead, and we went through a pretty wild mourning. His "d4eath" included an email from the REAL {thought now non-existant} website Last Wishes - which enables you to send out that "final" email if you don't check in during a certain timeframe. This was crazy - it was rather early in the game, and it seemed to be the main character {at the time}. Unfortunatly for all, he wasn't dead.
Confirmed:
Randall Thomas
Charles
Jaimie Cyphers
John Palmer
And last, but not least, and certainly for me most gut wrenching...
Ed Vargas
Ed was a source of much debate for a long time in the game. While there was only a small handful of people who knew all along Ron was the evil character, there were a larger number of people who thought ir was Ed, and that "poor Ron" was the pawn. Ed was a character who, more than the others, was our touch base for the game. Ed {AKA Amanda Graves, and anagram for "A Man Ed Vargas"} was the first character we are contacted by, granted through a form letter sent out from very first email contact.
In my opinion, Ed WAS the main character. Besides just being our first contact, his death also marked the abrupt {and satisfying if not terrifying} end of the game.
{Urban hunt was my first game, and Addle's ED was very adored by me. I would be more than happy to write a much better thought our OBIT if you would like for him.}
***if i am missing any deaths that occured during game, please let me know. I didn't bother mentioning deaths that occured technically before game start***

I'm thinking that if the pre-game deaths are the catalyst or key event that starts the ARG, they might be worth mentioning. If it's just an indirect cause of the ARG's start, or just a side part of things later, then I would say it's probably not so much worth it to post.

MeiGeist had no deaths; we thought there was a death, but it turned out to have been faked.
DoomSkull had the death of Ted Allen, uncle of teenager Missy Fisher. He was researching the Skulls, but was killed by them via the Internet. (I believe they made his car crash by messing with traffic lights.)

Conspiracy 08:
All members of Kitsune (Dunno how many there were, but there were supposedly alot)
All Takeda employees (Possible exception of Yori Tanaka. See below)
Several bajillion innocent civilians due to the Tengu invasion
Eric Remington (Died from fatal insomnia, I believe)
Presumed dead:
Rachael Silverman (Was the subject of experimentation that supposedly failed)
Yori Tanaka (Captured by bad guys, and presumably accidentally eaten later by John Blacksmith. Bad guys later claimed she was alive and well, and we were able to negotiate her release, but we almost certainly confirmed the person they released was an impostor)
John Blacksmith (Well, he was dying during the last few days of the ARG. Game ended before he died, though.)
