Ok, chain factor is without question the most addictive game I've ever played.
You're right and as we in the UK are so far behind you guys with transmission dates (I think we're on series 2) and I'm not travelling to the Twin Cities any time soon to check out a billboard, I simply gave up on the ARG. I've followed the impressive progress, though. It's difficult to believe that a game this deceptively simple and yet as addictive as Popplers won't be unleashed on the world.
Potential Overlords of the Earth, you have found the Soma to control us. Until the next one.................

For those that don't know...
After the 12 and final shutdown key was found, plans were made over the weekend to enter them all 'at the same time' to trigger the shutdown sequence. When the 12th key was finally entered, an email was sent out saying that we had triggered the final lock for Chain Factor.
From that point, a countdown for one week went up, along with the cumulative scores from the Power and Survival games. The Error Codes around 121 show that there will be different outcomes depending on what which mode wins. Right now, Power is winning by a large margin, so it appears that we're on our way to destroy the world economy - that is if you believe the email that was sent out when we triggered the whole thing, and that Frank didn't set up some other safeguard against it. We'll find out in a couple of days

Crash the world economy?
Hmm . . . chaos, confusion, disorder, anarchy . . . I like the sound of that

Why did you guys have to trigger the shutdown? I am hard core addicted to the game! I hope the flash game will still be available after tomorrow....
I am contributing to the Power score, because I like playing with sift, thrive, and tilt. What are other good combinations?

I like tilt / thrive / promote -- it may not help with my score much (I rarely break 200k) but it makes for a fun game.
Considering the investment CBS Interactive put in this game (with the media buys if nothing else) I'd assume they'll leave the game online even after the countdown runs out. Especially if we succeed in helping spectre destroy the world's economy
If you check out the High Scores tab in the game, you can see which powers everybody used to get their scores.

and they have!

Reloading the main page will update the flash game, and now it displays the names of players who entered any of the keycodes.

Frank at area/code still reads the Chain Factor forums and answers questions. I liked his response this week and just wanted to share it here:

Was there any concern about how we got some of the billboard art without ever finding the billboards? Specifically i'm thinking about that one blogger who "leaked" several files of prototype artwork.
frank wrote:
Yes, that was alarming to us. We didn't blame the players of course, who we're simply playing as hard as they could, and luckily it didn't mess things up too badly, as the puzzles that got solved from the leaked images were probably on the verge of getting solved "naturally" anyway. Note to self: in future put the "NOT FOR REPRO" label over the puzzle dummy!
(I'd love to have a PM chat with these guys -- any chance of inviting them to ARGfest?)

possible Chain Factor upgrade or sequel? (i'll continue to post updates here unless anyone objects)
I found this over on the Chain Factor forums:
Quote:
Hi Everyone,
Apologies for the problems, especially to you high-scoring players that are unable to submit your big scores. Unfortunately, we aren't able to address these technical issues at the current time. In the long run, however, we hope to resolve all these issues and much, much more . Sorry I can't be more specific. Stay tuned and thanks for playing.

Next week, Chain Factor is showing up on the NYU Class on ARGs discussion list (along with Lawn Games for Life). I'm looking forward to reading their responses to it on the class blog.
