So people know...

I found out about this from here:
http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Is_the_FBI_Spying_on_Podcasters/who

Which points to (Real article):
http://www.verysmalldoses.com/2007/09/is_the_fbi_spyi.php

A man by the pen name of J. Marcus Xavier posted about his role in handing out red envelopes with the URL for red monday on them at the Podcast and New Media Expo recently.

This activity pissed the CEO of the event off enough that he grabbed Xavier and then later had him removed from the exhibit floor. The CEO also badmouths him on several blogs related to the event.

This was made popular on the front page of Digg at about 9 AM EST, and then was buried and removed from the front page at about 10 AM EST. It lasted for an hour, about long enough to get word out on a popular social networking site, but not long enough to blow his server to hell.

Also interesting is the whole "Is the FBI spying on Podcasters?" title, which is basically a great way to get to the front page of Digg without anyone actually reading the page - anyone who is on Digg knows how quickly anything mentioning wiretapping gets to the front page.

I have a feeling Mr. Xavier is our Saul.

Too bad he felt the need to brag about his exploits.
When will they learn?

Indeed. In amusement, I used my corporate email address to stick the barrel of a rifle down the rabbit hole. Perhaps its bad form, but I wanted to see what would happen.

I noted the drop just appeared on a social networking site. My reason was true, I am bored between doing something I should be doing, and slacking off at work.

We'll see if there's a reply. It is my hope that this doesn't clam JC up for the rest of you, there's nothing linking my email to unfiction or anyone else. I simply noted that some guy playing "marketing drone" decided to recruit at an expo, till he got caught and thrown out. Then blogged about it, but gave the damned code out.

Also red-monday.net has been registered and redirects to .com

I figured there had to be a podcasting connection when I realized they were talking about Ontario California, and not Canada.

Xavier is the producer of the Silent Universe podcast. Very creative guy, though it takes forever to get a new episode of the podcast. Perhaps this Red Monday thing is a promotion for a new podcast novel.

Hello all.

I've been messing with the .swf files from the site, index2.swf (the login screen) and an apparently hidden .swf called login2.swf. Anyways, when I opened the inex2.swf in Flash CS3, I found a url:

http://www.red-monday.com/rm.txt?HomePage

and it displays the text:

abc=123

Anyone know of a good (free) decompiler of .swf files?

Flare (for Mac) gives me all of the actionscript code, I think.

Not sure where thebruce found "If you've managed to crack this far, then you must know what you're doing. Here's a code for you."

EDIT: Anyone notice in the phone log that, after JC (I'm assuming JC is the one with the higher voice) says something about the G-man, the other guy (Saul) says something really strange? Its a short word that sounds like "nodudo."

reEDIT: He is saying "lo dudo" which means "I doubt it" in spanish.

I don't know if decompiling flash files is frowned upon here.

next email: response to: Lol. I know how you feel. But why is my email address in the page
> source? u know noonamimalano.

His response: I'm using it to trace others who look in the source code. Several
people
have looked there, and tried to use the name as a password. It helps me
identify people who shouldn't be there...

Consider it a bit of thanks for pointing that error out to me.

the phone call

I speak spanish and he says lo dudo, which means I doubt it. It does make sense when you listen to the coversation.

One guy says Lo dudo, then the other guy says yeah will see.

I had an email from JC recently. I have made assurances to him or her that the exact details of the email will remain confidential, but a sanitized recap will be posted somewhere.

To that end: On the matter of Digg, information suppressors have buried the Digg story according to JC. "NSMike" was bought, as well. A request made not to inform Saul, and a hope expressed that I hadn't previously talked to him.

All in all, a short missive, but a trust building exercise. After all, I do not doubt for one moment that someone IG is reading this thread.

Edit 1: NSMike is a digg user. The link to his comment:
http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Is_the_FBI_Spying_on_Podcasters?t=9586056#c9586056

NSMike being "paid" appears to be a payment to silence the story through posting negative comments. His comment, the only comment, was "Buried for sensationalism." Since the Digg article was buried so quickly (under 2 hours of front page even though the headline had a heavy anti-gov slant), this may be part of the information suppression operation.

It seems that someone likes Digg for its reach into the interblagosphere (see XKCD for Interblag) and the number of podcasters that Digg reaches.

If you view the 2nd frame of the main timeline, they are two text objects displayed beside a square. (of /index2.swf)
