[SPEC] Connection between Poe and ... the Rest?

not sure if this is the place to post this but any connection between Poe and the Theme? Is there a theme yet? We seem to have jumped from Myan myth to greek epic to Early American fiction. Is there a thematic link here. The poe reference on the wiki drew me back in. Was about to give up on this one.
Michelle

EDIT: This merits its own topic, since it is a new line of thinking. For what it's worth, the connection I see immediately is the raven, traditionally the trickster in Amerindian mythology -xnbomb

Some common themes between sites:

There is also the missing i's from the letter which we thought was merely a clue to click on the mayan glyphs eyes. The eyes have shown up again on this site. My take on it is that its our own eye that gets taken by the raven when we enter a wrong password.

The ninth month of the Mayan Quiche calander translates to: Red Clouds

Quote:
Quiché month names with the better known Yucatec Maya month names:

Red Clouds Yaxkin / Green Days

Black Hills -
Quote:
Custer's 1874 Black Hills expedition again brought war to the northern Plains, a war that would mean the end of independent Indian nations.
the end of independant nations I see as a reference to the borders dissolving on the GOES map.

I am not sure if its anything but our friend E.A.Poe also wrote about the Black Hills.

Quote:
The game had been exceedingly abundant, and in great variety — elk, buffalo, big-horn, mule-deer, bears, foxes, beaver, etc., etc., with wild fowl innumerable. Fish was also plentiful. The width of the stream varied considerably from two hundred and fifty yards to passes where the current rushed between bluffs not more than a hundred feet apart. The face of these bluffs generally was composed of a light yellowish freestone, intermingled with burnt earth, pumice-stone, and mineral salts. At one point the aspect of the country underwent a remarkable change, the hills retiring on both sides to a great distance from the river, which was thickly interspersed with small and beautiful islands, covered with cotton-wood. The low grounds appeared to be very fertile; those on the north wide and low, and opening into three extensive valleys. Here seemed to be the extreme northern termination of the range of mountains through which the Missouri had been passing for so long a time, and which are called the Black Hills by the savages. The change from the mountainous region to the level was indicated by the atmosphere, which now became dry and pure; so much so indeed that we perceived its effects upon the seams of our boats, and our few mathematical instruments.

More of this can be found here:

Poe was also alive and kicking in Red Clouds day (assuming this is the same Red Cloud, there was a few of them) here are the dates:

Red Cloud (Lakota: Makhpiya Luta), (1822–December 10, 1909)
Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849)

I know its all pretty vague ties but I am sure they will get closer and closer as this progresses and perhaps I am way off but these are all things I have been reading about trying to figure this out....

this bothers me too...

it's about Aztec mythology.. no no.. its about Native Americans.. .no no it's about American History... no no, its about American Literature.. no no it's about Southwestern Radio... no no it's about Military Air Incidents... no no...

Is this is just one big stream of consciousness puzzle for the sake of puzzles?

the fact that the pm switched "streams" after the pm thinks we were getting bored, tells me alot.. ...either that or he/she PM'd him/herself into a corner...or or he/she gave up on us "getting" anywhere with the other line of puzzles.

why so many unfollowed up lines of 'clues' on the GOES maps? the circles and marks on those areas in Michigan and Wisconsin, the "smoking" cities...

it seems frustrating to me at times, but at the same time, intriguing... or the whole theme could be (as i mentioned somewhere before).. How do you keep a bunch of ARGeeks in Suspense?

eta.. i like the colors theory... Red Cloud, Green ?, Black Hills, ...., I also like the mssng i's theme. how does that work for the blackhills radio site?

Well seeing as though this seems like the End of the World Theme... bouncing around from culture to culture seems... fitting. Dontcha think?
