Things I've tried so far.
Maybe this will give someone an idea

Since drizjr told me how she came about trying areyouaborder.com, I decided to post stuff I try, with the hopes it will inspire someone else to come up with the correct answer.

- I tried matching each image to a paragraph in "The Raven", and then trying the first letter of each paragraph.

- I tried assigning dot and dash values to the images based on a couple of things: Left and right orientation, images that show light coming from the raven, and those that don't, stuff like that.

Both these attempts failed. I'm still trying to find the entire set of 24 slides so I can see if there is any significance to the slides we have (or the ones we don't have).

Catching up and reading about all the sites that opened up the "Black Hills" name reminded me of something I read about when looking for clues searching for Red Cloud. Here is an excerpt taken from

http://www.pbs.org/weta/thewest/people/i_r/redcloud.htm

Quote:
Red Cloud's strategies were so successful that by 1868 the United States government had agreed to the Fort Laramie Treaty. The treaty's remarkable provisions mandated that the United States abandon its forts along the Bozeman Trail and guarantee the Lakota their possession of what is now the Western half of South Dakota, including the Black Hills, along with much of Montana and Wyoming.

The peace, of course, did not last. Custer's 1874 Black Hills expedition again brought war to the northern Plains, a war that would mean the end of independent Indian nations. For reasons which are not entirely clear, Red Cloud did not join Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull and other war leaders in the Lakota War of 1876-77. However, after the military defeat of the Lakota nation, Red Cloud continued to fight for the needs and autonomy of his people, even if in less obvious or dramatic ways than waging war.

Don't know if it has to do with this but thought I would throw it out there

(Edited to remove spoiler tags. ~ drizjr)

More Morse discoveries
Will drizjr crack this game single-handedly?

So, drizjr says to me: "Doesn't that red lightning bolt on bhrc.com look like Morse to you?"
Sure enough it does, and it is, and it's numbers. 21129. There is 0 chance this is just random flashing, since it is 5 groups of 5 "dots" (single frame flashes) and "dashes" (double frame flashes), separated by clear breaks (2 or 3 consecutive frames with no flash).

It doesn't work as a password on ayab.com, it doesn't work as an .html on any of our sites. 21129.com is coming soon, but seems OOG, and I tried parsing the number as the second half of an IP address (i.e 207.246.21.129 or 207.246.211.29) - both are unrelated.

Any other ideas?

PS: DbD (who has made a miraculous comeback) pointed out that Joseph Boggs Beale, the artists who painted the Magic Lantern slides we see on ayab.com, lost all his artwork in the Chicago fire. Hmmm... It seems that all that research we did waiting for updates is paying off. The black hills connection was spotted way back by Liquidtouch (and recently reposted. Nice work, BTW), and the Chicago fire reference we found on the map on ajkin.com.

PPS: so, what the heck is 21129 supposed to mean?

PPPS: Comparing our mp3 Morse message with the text tygr found, I can see that our version is "mssng" one word: "Scattered". (No, it's not the password. damn).

A quick FYI, I just noticed and HetMasteen just verified, that the veins in the eyeball that the Raven is carrying are the lightning from blackhillsradiocontrol.org inverted.

I was going to say that 21129 would be September 21, 2012 backwards, and i was thinking that was the end of the Mayan calendar cycle but I see now that it's actually December 21, 2012 (not September) oh well..

edited to add: but i did see that September 21, 2012 is the fall equinox, also called Mabon.

Do we think the Eye thing is an additional clue?

Two passages of The Raven mention eyes

Quote:
(stanza 13)This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o'er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!

(stanza 18)And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

I was looking for connections between Poe and eyes and stumbled upon this.

Quote:
...the chief merit of a picture is its truth, is an assertion deplorably erroneous....Without even color the most thrilling effects are produced. In statues we are rather pleased than disgusted with the want of the eyeball.

Just found it kind of apropos.

Edit: one correction. Image 3 shows a demon. Image 6 contains seraphim/angels.

21129 Megahertz is a European amateur radio frequency for satellite communications.

Also it's "gax" in Base36. (I only mention this as not having any digits in a base36 conversion is not typical).

If it were a valid US Zip Code, it'd be in the Baltimore Maryland vicinity.

I have some other thoughts on it, but will need to wait till I can access some of my codified lists at work.

It could be a date, either 2/11/29 or 21/1/29 (the first one could I suppose be taken as either day/month/year or month/day/year). I've had a very quick look and didn't find anything that seemed relevant happening on such dates in either 1829 or 1929, but it might be worth a little more investigating.

Nice to see people posting here.

I did try the dates, myf. Nothing caught my eye. However, the backwards date is something I didn't think of.

I would imagine that the eyeball lightning link would mean the password was 21129, but it ain't. So, I think we're mssng a step. We should do something with this number that will give us the password...

21' 129" N is a latitude that runs right through the Yucatan Peninsula. Could be Cancun.

Also Chicxulub (crater). A longitude would be nice.

Morse code extended on bhrc

I was wondering if there was any indications of spacing on the Morse coded lightning bolt on http://www.blackhillsradiocontrol.org/ to help us separate the digits accordingly. I was surprised to find that there is, but not only that.... there has been more added to the code!
I used double spaces for a single break, and four spaces for a new start.
By right clicking and deselecting both Play and Loop, then clicking rewind to get to the beginning of the code; one can advance one frame at a time through the swf by clicking on forward.
This is what I see, but I would appreciate if someone could double check it.

21 12 9 2 3 4 11 16 34

Any ideas what that might be?

And, welcome to all the more posters!

Ok, what does that change in the TONE mean????
has that always been there?

The end "dits" sounds like phone tones to me...... and there's some other 'chirping' in there too...

and is there a difference between the dits played on the left speaker and the ones played on the right speakers...

the numbers remind me of the NUMBERS Stations...

[RESEARCH] Lucan, Pharsalia
towards BHRC audio morse puzzle

Here's another online version of Lucan's "Civil War" (Pharsalia) link
It starts at line 151 of Book I and it's different than what we have so far. I've made bold the words not in our transcript and underlined scaring because in our transcript, "searing" is used.
Quote:
Just so flashes out the thunderbolt shot forth by the winds through clouds,
accompanied by the crashing of the heavens and sound of shattered ether;
it splits the sky and terrifies the panicked
people, scaring eyes with slanting flame;
against its own precincts it rages, and, with nothing solid stopping [155]
its course, both as it falls and then returns great is the devastation
dealt far and wide before it gathers again its scattered fires.

edit to reply to ncfriend: Those are all good observations. These puzzles sure are meaty.

oh, one more edit: The first word (just) is in the morse on bhrc. Maybe it got cut out in the transfer process?

21 12 9 2 3 4 11 16 34 = of accompanied winds flashes the thunderbolt clouds of eyes.
