SPOILER ADDENDUM Ok, well, that everyone-has-different-spices thing changes a lot in what I posted. Maybe I should make an addendum here, so folks aren't confused with my craziness:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Use the heaviest spice as a base on one side.
Take each spice, one at a time, and add it to the other side, counting how many piles it takes to balance with your base spice.
Number them in order.
Then pair them by size and color, for example, the garlic and the meat chunks are the same size, so put them together in the order of lightest color first.
I hope that is clearer....don't want to see any "Sassy said to use garlic and I can't even pick it up!" posts........

Puzzle opened 30 minutes earlier than expected is why. I said so earlier in this thread, but I guess you missed that.
I could probably win the post-the answer race half the time, but personally I believe in waiting at least a few hours before posting more than hints.

I have the same puzzle as Cmdr Bond.
No garlic. To those that did have garlic, are you playing in the US or on another site?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Visually:
White(sm) Green White(lg) Green
Brown Orange Black Yellow
Red
Ordered by size and color:
1 White(lg)
2 Red
3 Brown
4 White(sm)
5 Green
6 Yellow
7 Orange
8 Black
Comparative weights:
White(sm) - 1
Green - 1
White(lg) - 8
Green - 1
Brown - 4
{Orange - 8/5 = 1.6} unused
Black - 8/6 = 1.3~
Yellow - 2
Red - 8/3 = 2.6~
Red = Black + Black
1 - left - White(lg) 1
2 - right - Brown 3
3 - right - Red 2
4 - left - Black 8
5 - left - Black 8
6 - right - Yellow 6
7 - right - White(sm) 4
8 - right - Green 5
Does give me 1328 8645, but still doesn't make any sense!

Sassy obviously knows something about cooking.
The confusion is in food identification, knowledge of food terms and communicating with those who don't know them. The Garlic in the unclickable bowl are garlic heads or bulbs. Garlic heads contain a number of triangular shaped cloves, which is what cooks use directly, mince, or press for juice. The largest white clickable objects in the bowl may indeed be garlic cloves. The resolution of the image isn't good enough to be sure. On my own scribble sheet, I just labeled them LW for large-white object.

LOLOLOLOL!!! You got me....
In my excitement, I didn't even consider that a) some folks may have different spices, and b) not everyone can identify the spices they have, and c) that we'd interpret the items the same. I shoulda said "big bulbous white things" instead of garlic cloves!! And the red hominy could be cashews or some other nut....
Yes, I spend ENTIRELY too many hours watching cooking shows, and prolly too many cooking itself as well. Also, I was reading about the location's exports and spices, and so some of that was already in my head.
Oh, and Degrav....I am in California. I had garlic.

i am in atlanta. and i didnt have garlic. i believe the garlic items were the spice to the furthest left? i am not a cook, so garlic was the only spice i recognized, but my base weight was what i labeled "big white rocks" but looked very different from the garlic. also i noticed degravity used two black spices (well the same spice but in 2 diff bowls)...i could only use one black spice but used 2 green spices....thats where i got the diff people have diff spices to use idea...but i dunno. it could be related to where you are from?

OH! No, sorry, I should have labeled that clearer. I used the same black twice. The far left black was unavailable to me.
And as far as I could figure out (from a couple hours of research yesterday, based on what they had in the area during that time period and lots of looking at pictures of bulk stock, x_x *obsession*) the spices look most like:
Quote:
Top Row:
Ground Black Pepper (LBlack) -- Whole White Cardamom (SmWhite) -- Cumin Seeds (LGreen) -- Nutmegs {covered in flour or something?} (MWhite) -- Coriander Seeds (RGreen)
Middle Row:
Shallots {the mini ones, or Candlenuts} (Brown) -- Cayenne Powder {Paprika is usually more reddish} (Orange) -- Black Sesame Seeds (RBlack) -- Curry{/Turmeric?} Powder (Yellow)
Bottom Row:
Garlic (LgWhite) -- Dried Chilies {Only one I really can't figure out, Meat, Dried Figs? Chilies are the only real spice in those.} (Red)
