I never noticed this before, but I went back to view the chat log again, and at the top of the main screen it greets the user: "Welcome Carolina". So perhaps we ARE watching from her side, but for some reason we only see her typing once.

I hadn't noticed "Welcome Carolina."

I think we see her type it so that we realise that she did only enter it once, just like how Wayne kept insisting he wasn't saying the "w8ting" thing.

Huckleberry Finn text found in background, similar to the other two books found, which are, guess what - banned books.

Basically the site reveals that the way we are getting these sites and songs is from a group in the future (SBI) who is sending this information back in time to us so we can prevent the situation they are in now.

That doesn't really explain who Darren Kroupa is or why we should care.

News about Nine Inch Nails

Gizmodo supports the ARG btw Wink

Quote:
In light of our anti-RIAA campaign, it's interesting to look at artists who are trying to operate outside of DRM-infested distribution schemes, actually taking advantage of the internet to get their stuff out. I don't know how many of you have been following it, but Nine Inch Nails' Year Zero campaign, on top of a fairly sophisticated ARG, has been distributing tracks from the upcoming album on USB flash drives at concerts. The first two were found in bathroom stalls (ick) and then another taped to the barricade at a show.

They've all been 320 kbps MP3, DRM-free and widely distributed. Of course, the RIAA had a conniption, even though it's an official NIN viral promotion, pretty much proving our point. We're up to four tracks out right now, so who knows if more are coming. Nonetheless, it seems like a better way to deal with album leaks than suing the pants off of people and their grandmothers. Um, yeah, Kroupa is the one on the left, with the headphones. So we at least know he works for the band.

Oh, and KROQ played "The Beginning of the End". There's a recording up at the Echoing the Sound forums.

maybe we're supposed to find him and warn him that in 15 years, he's gonna be in trouble...

Once again. Look at the picture. Darren on far right. I honestly doubt we're going to have to find a member of Trent's staff.

(Sorry if I sound a bit harsh. Embarassed )

I get the opposite feeling - I think that Kroupa is probably a key to the next step. If Kroupa was real, and really in the music business, I think we'd probably be able to find him on google somehow. I don't know about anyone else, but I've been unsuccessful.

I think the photo is a plant, so that we have an idea of what the character looks like. I don't think we need to go out and find him though.

My theory is that the musician that the pilgrims refer to as one that's still kicking is Kroupa - and that the guy on the phone recording refers to after playing Survivalism by saying, "still no charges".

I don't think that Trent is written into the ARG as a character. Remember that the songs are supposedly from the points of view of the characters in the future, so maybe that's what they mean when they talk about the songs and books they used as keys - we get the songs that are supposedly by Kroupa, or at least they're ones that Kroupa is involved with.

I could very well be wrong, but that's what I'm going with for now.

I think you mean far left..?

dexlargo might have something, it's folly to dismiss it on the grounds that Darren appears in a photograph.. We have photos of people on the Hollywood in Memorium page, and presumably those people aren't dead IRL..?

The only stuff anyone can seem to find on Darren Kroupa is this one picture from the present, and on a site from the future.

</"2 cents">
