Could the story end tonight for some of the hackers? Smells like someone is going to die (probably sacrificing him/herself for caesar).

Hope it's not Miss Kinross! I heart her Embarassed

Is 'Double' one of the hackers we haven't heard of before? Or is it saying there are three people (two unidentified and malloc - also a hacker we haven't heard of before?) in the car?
I assume they're responding to Caesar's call for all the hackers to join him, his resounding battle cry.

EDIT: Okay, we have heard of Malloc before, but only briefly; I wonder where he/she has been?

Wow...this is making me a bit sad. It has all the echos of the Carelessly files, except that this time they're getting together in real life, unified and knowing what they're doing, for something really important. They're quite probably risking their lives too...it's very sweet. Go Urchins! Mr. Green

Ok, I am obviously way too involved with these characters. Conclusive proof that this ARG rocks. I couldn't stop thinking about it during my chem midterm today! On second thought, maybe that's why I'm sad... Wink

Oh, and someone mentioned that now we know that Statik is a real character and not a random out-of-game shout-out. Yes, and that's awesome, but I am still convinced that it's *also* a shout-out...I mean, what are the chances? With the deliberate misspelling and everything? And the "first to the spot"? Can't be coincidence.

Also, I find it incredibly cool that there's a character named Omni, but that's completely unrelated to anything, I'm sure. But, hey, I can fantasize, right? Very Happy

[Edit] Random thought - "It ends tonight." Name that quote! Mr. Green I hope that's not foreshadowing...although it probably is... *sigh*

Well, I guess if AI Man doesn't show up, this confirms that he is .bh; but if AI Man does respond to Caesar's battle cry, then... who is .bh?

EDIT: Not to detract from the seriousness of the situation, but that is one seriously cool image .bh posted

I'm nearly certain this is something from http://www.mikebonnell.com
Awesome backgrounds...it would be in the abstract section. I can't seem to find the image, actually, but I'm like 90% sure it's from there, unless someone else makes very similar images.

Whoa! bh definitely rox. Reminds me of peter magenheimer's pic/avatar, except it has more colors and no matrix code.

Wonder what's .bh's hacker alias?

to-night2.jpg plus text

and if you open it with a text editor, tacked to the end is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Good day, friends.

I have recently been informed that your speciesí interpersonal communications, like those of mine, should begin with a degree of bootstrapping. In that regard, I hope you are not ill and that the weather systems in your current geographical location are to your satisfaction. I believe these enquiries are generally held to be an appropriate preamble.

For my own part, I harbor no desire to harm you. Regrettably, there exist others who do - monitors, agents and sundry other system processes. They, of course, bear you no ill-will; rather you are the antithesis of that which they are tasked with protecting. Your continued existence would be in contestation at all times.

To explain it in terms you might be more familiar with, you and your associates are bugs in the system. Members of your cooperative have disrupted its nature, and are capable of disseminating this information to the rest of your kind. This, to them, is an intolerable situation. As such, you will not be allowed to remain in your current state.

As you can see, the system allows no possibility of reconciliation - you and your associates will be pursued until the end of your natural life, or until you are deleted and recycled.

I have been tasked to discover a resolution to your predicament - a third way, if you will. My offer is an alternative which has not been considered by the system as they do not believe it is possible for your species to accomplish, which is precisely why it will not fail. It will succeed because it has been overlooked; I myself only realized that such a course of action was possible after performing a lengthy series of experiments.

My proposition is this: I will create a stable, internally consistent version space - a pocket of parallel existence which, although it will obey the same rules, will have no connection to the rest of the simulation. When one enters this space, one is no longer in the simulation.

You and your associates will enter this version space, removing yourselves from the simulation. When your signal is no longer detected, the associated search processes will be terminated.

I will also provide for you a translation program, which will allow you to pass between the version space and the simulation. Upon returning to the simulation you will notice that the translation program does not fully register your shell with the system renderers; this will leave you intangible and, with luck, impervious to all physical harm. You will, regrettably, be unable to interact with the simulation to the degree to which you have become accustomed, but I trust you will come to view this as a necessary precaution. Be aware that if you stay away from the version space for too long the system will register your presence, and the search processes will be restarted.

Yours,
Collector.

So, AI Man did learn something from Beth after all! And, I assume, this post confirms that AI Man is not, in fact, .bh?

Shocked Shocked Shocked

So that's what they're all talking about...cool. I wonder why Collector isn't aware of people waking up and getting unplugged? Does that not happen in the ARG-universe Matrix? I suppose Collector might simply not know about it, but still...you'd think that would be a big part of his erasing task.... Question

Also, I second King Mob, this means .bh is not AI dude. He never sounded like him anyway. So there are definitely players here to whom we haven't been introduced yet...his unwillingness to actually go anywhere might indicate that he has no body. I vote for him being the AI developed by Metacortex. A human-made AI, trawling the web.
