IMO If you take all the real world interaction out of an ARG its just a computer game. In the same way, if you only have live events you got yourself a LARP. The exciting thing about ARGs is that they slightly overlap ubiquitous reality.
To a degree, I agree with Ehsan though... there needs to be a significant online component if the PMs want to include as many people as possible. ILB was extremely online, and really the only real-world thing was a recruitment of a portion of the players to answer phones and unlock audio. Everything else was online. LCP, while it had online components, also had a number of real-world events, and while I personally didn't get into that game as much, I believe I easily could have, even though I never would have made it to any of the graveyard poker games and such.
So, I think maybe not 99% online components, but at least a majority of an ARG should be online to include the bulk of the players.
We all know that lurkers account for the vast majority of players, and of the active players, a large portion are active online-only. Live events cater to much smaller groups, or people recruited to help further the online component, per se.
But ultimately, it all depends on the target audience/market for the ARG, and 100% offline or 100% online are both feasible if that's the intent .

Seeing as this is now the repository for the first week's puzzle solves, can we either split those solves into another thread, or change the topic of this page?

In the effort to make things more easily accessable to people who don't want to read through three whole pages, I've split out all of the posts regarding the on_the_run page and subsequent emails to this thread .

called the number i've called the number mentioned above and get a recording.
at the end it asks the questions:
"what line separates the earth from the sky?"
not sure what to do next. i've tried saying "horizon" and "the horizon" in case they've got voice recognition, but it just says "goodbye" and hangs up. also tried calling 866-horizon, but no answer there.
anyone else?

horizon is an answer to one of the theme puzzles from the main site, there's no more to that answer as far as we know.

New here but have been lurking and reading many of the threads. I found this info when looking for META Puzzle info on Wiki....Coincidence maybe...Maybe not.
Anyone actually know who "Buzz Lime Pi" is? Loki perhaps?

The Vanishing Point Sweepstakes officially end on January 30th. Anything after that is definitely not related to the game.

No need to make 2 separate posts. You can edit your earlier post to add new thoughts, particularly when nobody has posted after you.

Hey cglrcng:
Unfiction is a community of sharing. When you post something like this, it is not sharing information, it is more like a kid in a school yard going "nah nah nah, I have a secret", or "I'm better than you".
Please reconsider and post the email and the return address. If it's ingame - then it is meant to be shared. If it's a personal email/non-character address, then it doesn't belong ingame and no reason to mention it.
Thanks.

I assumed they were talking about the one we all got.
Quote:
"Loki . (Confidential)" <v>
to me
Hmmm. Not quite what I had in mind. Try harder - then listen closely.

EDIT: Odd. It won't let me post the address, thinking it's a tag of some sort. Trying it as Code:
Code:
"Loki . (Confidential)" <v>
to me
Hmmm. Not quite what I had in mind. Try harder - then listen closely.

EDTI2: It keeps re-writing the "vDASH lokiSPLAT microsoft.com" entry

Bump for a wiki update.
There was a question as to how the cube could work in the previous exploded view as the months of May and June had to be rotated 180 degrees to make it work. Here's an alternative version that shows how the cube should be constructed by "connecting" the handwritten notes on certain dates.
ETA:
So, given that there haven't been any real "errors" on any of the puzzles, that I've heard of, should I be wondering why there is an overlap of day(s) from one month to the next?

here is what i discovered:
January starts on a Monday in 2001, 2007, 2018 == 6yr and 11yr cycles.
February starts on a Wednesday in 1995, 2006, 2012 == 11yr and 6yr cycles. (see below for notes related to leap years)
March starts on a Tuesday in 1994, 2005, 2011 == 11yr and 6yr cycles
April starts on a Wednesday in 1998, 2009, 2015 == 11yr and 6yr cycles
May starts on a Tuesday in 2001, 2007, 2012 == 6yr and 6yr cycles
June starts on a Monday in 1998, 2009, 2015 == 11yr and 6yr cycles
The common theme seems to be an 11 year and 6 year cycle for all but the fifth (5
th
) month of May which has a 6yr cycle only and if we ommit leap year then February has 11yr cycle only.
I'm sure there is a name for this.

You could probably take the 2012 entry for February out as it's a leap year and doesn't match the February page we have.
thanks for pointing that out. So, removing leap year gives:
February starts on a Wednesday in 1995, 2006, 2017, omitting leap year 2012 ==11 year cycles
edit: to make corrections
