[SOLVED] PDA.Gif [Nov 13]

I broke down the PDA.gif file into its slices... it has 58 different frames of animation... four different frames, white, light grey, dark grey, and black.

I wrote down the pattern and length of each frame.

1 = white
2 = light grey
3 = dark grey
4 = black

after the X is the length of time the frame runs (in seconds)

1x8 3x5 3x10 1x10 1x10

3x2 2x65 3x2 1x1 2x4

3x12 1x8 4x8 1x8 1x4

3x8 4x8 1x4 4x6 4x8

1x6 1x4 1x6 3x8 1x8

2x4 4x6 4x6 1x6 1x6

1x6 4x8 1x8 1x6 3x12

2x8 4x8 2x6 1x4 2x4

4x8 3x10 2x8 2x1 4x4

1x4 1x4 3x6 2x6 1x4

1x2 1x1 3x2 4x2 4x2

1x4 1x2 2x2

Alright y'all... figure it out!!

So 58 frames... maybe they form a picture when placed side by side for certain amount of spaces, and in rows?

Edit: here are the numbers multiplied:

8 15 30 10 10

6 130 3 1 8

36 8 32 8 4

24 32 4 24 32

6 4 6 24 8

8 24 24 6 6

6 32 8 6 36

16 32 12 4 8

32 30 16 2 16

4 4 18 12 4

2 1 6 8 8

4 2 4

damn

I tried breaking it down... making a picture...

Using the 393 total seconds, and 65 being the largest of all I divided 393 by 65 getting 6.

So I made the dimensions 65 x 6...

Here it is...

Unblurred:

Blurred

Hmmm... this might be the right idea, need better dimensions though.

[edit]

Tried again with different dimensions... made it equivalent to the 3 x 4 ratio of the originals...

Unblurred:

Blurred:

I think this might be going nowhere..

It's probably not important, but it might as well be noted that the gif is set to run through its animation only once; no looping. I guess that's just to stress that there is a need to see the begning and end of the pattern?

I have the same data in slightly more machine-parsable format, for anyone interested:

i think each line of the transcript.txt matches to a frame in the pda.gif

more to come....
[edit]

it appears
1 (white) = true
2 (light grey) = no answer required / (possible don't understand)
3 (dark grey) = can't answer (because its not a yes/no question)
4 (black) = false
[/edit]
[edit]
forgot to say the time each frame lasts is the delay between beth speaking
[/edit]

Colin nailed a good idea... transcript.txt has 58 lines... there are 58 frames... i'll break it down...

[edit]Also, imagine the codes coming AFTER she speaks... so "You're back!" would be followed by her PDA going white for 8 seconds...[/edit]

Quote:
1x8 Youíre back!

3x5 Why are you here?

3x10 What do you need from me?

1x10 Wait, are you sending msgs to my PDA?

1x10 Should I go get it?

3x2 Ugh. Why donít you ever answer me?

2x65 Hold on.

3x2 What's this?

1x1 Is it you?

2x4 It is you.

3x12 Why arenít you talking in XML?

1x8 This is easier for real time conversation.

4x8 Has your memory been repaired?

1x8 Do you still need my help?

1x4 With language?

3x8 How can I help you?

4x8 Do you even know how I can help you?

1x4 But you've come to me for a reason.

4x6 You've come to me because... I'm a woman?

4x8 Well, that's a relief. How about... because of where I live?

1x6 Where I work?

1x4 My job?

1x6 You need a software developer.

3x8 What sort of software developer do you need?

1x8 Oh right. Um... I'm a server side girl, will that do?

2x4 Alright. Now we're getting somewhere.

4x6 So this is going to be some sort of coding session?

4x6 Not coding... systems requirements?

1x6 Thank you god. Debugging?

1x6 Hmm. You need... wait a second, is this related to those malfunctions you mentioned before?

1x6 Communications was one, obviously.

4x8 And the other was... storage, I think.

1x8 No? Oh, retrieval?

1x6 So, are you telling me you're running some kind of program, and that's how you can talk to the PDA?

3x12 But if that's the case, where is the hardware?

2x8 You're not carrying anything.

4x8 I don't think I really want to ask this, but... you aren't human, are you?

2x6 Alright, um, huh. These days, I'm about ready to believe anything. So, let's assume you're not human, you're an alien or a robot or a something.

1x4 The thing you want me to debug... it's a part of you, isn't it?

2x4 Whoa. OK. Um, Huh. So, show me the code.

4x8 Fine. Can you show me the code?

3x10 Well then how can I debug you if I can't see the code?

2x8 You are not making this easy, my friend.

2x1 Ok, let's step back for a moment.

4x4 No, I didn't mean that literally... never mind. If I'm going to be able to help you, it's not going to be by actually changing your code, is it?

1x4 You need me to help you help yourself.

1x4 I can't fix you, but maybe I can get you the tools you need. Is that what you're asking?

3x6 So what do you need?

2x6 This is like pulling teeth...

1x4 Ok, so here's a thought... you can talk to the PDA, right?

1x2 So, presumably you can talk to larger computers, yes?

1x1 If I brought you into work, you could talk to the company's computers.

3x2 Would they have the information you need?

4x2 I'm guessing it's some sort of information you're after, right?

4x2 No?

1x4 Oh, wait, I know. You need computing power.

1x2 You need lots of computing power.

2x2 I just might be able to help you there, my friend.

Edited a little...

New idea floating, 1 = TRUE, 4 = FALSE... 2 = SORTA TRUE, 3 = SORTA FALSE....

PROPS TO MONKI, COLIN, MONKI, COLIN, and to the rest of the crew of solvers on chat in alpha order: BrianEnigma, Ehsan, yeahyeah, xnbomb.

Not sure if we actually helped, but we did argue a lot.. :)

since he's replying I'll reformat.. same key as above

<colin> 1 (white) = true
<colin> 2 (light grey) = no answer required / (possible don't understand)
<colin> 3 (dark grey) = can't answer (because its not a yes/no question)
<colin> 4 (black) = false

thanks colin..

btw, I did nothing but merge data others found and replaced 1x with YES x
and 4x with NO x.. props to those above..

Speculation: greyscale was possible used since not all pda's are color..
thats why 2 and 3 may of not been distinct distant colors.

Hats off to colin for the solve! Great work linking between transcript.txt and PDA.gif and then figuring out what the codes mean. (And thank you monki for all the groundwork Smile ) .. Great work #matrix

Our AI friend "root" is having a conversation with Beth, but he can't talk so he's sending the results to her PDA. He can't say anything other than yes or no.

1= Yes
2= No Answer Required
3= No Answer Possible
4= No

Root uses 2 and 3 when beth doesn't ask Yes/No questions so we can ignore them, but he's very clear when it comes to Yes/No questions.

The times are real time the conversation is taking place so 8 seconds means the gap between beth's questions.

Youíre back!
YES - 8 seconds

Why are you here?
No Answer Possible - 5 seconds

What do you need from me?
No Answer Possible - 10 seconds

Wait, are you sending msgs to my PDA?
YES - 10 seconds

Should I go get it?
YES - 10 seconds

Ugh. Why donít you ever answer me?
No Answer Possible - 2 seconds

Hold on.
No Answer Required - 65 seconds (she went to get it)

What's this?
No Answer Possible - 2 seconds

Is it you?
YES - 1 second (quick reply and she spots it)

It is you.
No Answer Required - 4 seconds

Why arenít you talking in XML?
No Answer Possible - 12 seconds

This is easier for real time conversation.
YES - 8 seconds

Has your memory been repaired?
NO - 8 seconds

Do you still need my help?
YES - 8 seconds

With language?
YES - 4 seconds

How can I help you?
No Answer Possible - 8 seconds (Go back to yes/no beth!)

Do you even know how I can help you?
NO - 8 seconds

But you've come to me for a reason.
YES - 4 seconds

You've come to me because... I'm a woman?
NO - 6 seconds

Well, that's a relief. How about... because of where I live?
NO - 8 seconds

Where I work?
YES - 6 seconds (interesting..)

My job?
YES - 4 seconds

You need a software developer.
YES - 6 seconds

What sort of software developer do you need?
No Answer Possible - 8 seconds (yes/no only please!!)

Oh right. Um... I'm a server side girl, will that do?
YES - 8 seconds

Alright. Now we're getting somewhere.
No Answer Required - 4 seconds (Root agrees but can't say yes)

So this is going to be some sort of coding session?
NO - 6 seconds

Not coding... systems requirements?
NO - 6 seconds

YES - 6 seconds

Hmm. You need... wait a second, is this related to those malfunctions you mentioned before?

No Answer Possible - 12 seconds

You're not carrying anything.
No Answer Required - 8 seconds (was that a question or a statement beth)

I don't think I really want to ask this, but... you aren't human, are you?
NO - 8 seconds

Alright, um, huh. These days, I'm about ready to believe anything. So, let's assume you're not human, you're an alien or a robot or a something.

Wow, nice work. I think that 2 = statements that don't necessarily need a reply, and 3 = questions that are more complicated than yes/no or true/false. A lot of the 3 questions are things like "Why...?" or "How...?"

My dearest regards to those who solved this!

This hab my _really_ at the edge of my seat.
OMG!

On a sidenote:
seeing my posts on story developements/speculations being mostly ignored, I'd be thankfull if someone pointed me to the best place (besides IRC) to discuss such matters.

Thanks & cheers,
