Dictionary.com says, "a particular form of expression; a word, phrase, expression, or idiom, esp. as used by a particular person, group, etc." I would expect it's referring to the final entry in the Devil's Dictionary.

I don't have the dictionary, but can the answer be located at devilsdictionary.com?

How did you come up with the last entry? The last one in there is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ZOOLOGY

Unless I'm just totally lost (which is usually the case)

Well it said the "rearmost locution;" I assumed that to mean the final entry. Dunno if it just means the word or the whole definition, but hey.

Oh that makes sense. I was thinking "to enjoy detonation", so I guess thats how I got confused there.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with devilsdictoinary.com (all I got was a goth portal), but a quick search of the web seems to pull up the text of the book in several places, and the the final entry is indeed "ZOOLOGY" (see here and here for two examples)

Quote:

ZOOLOGY, n.
The science and history of the animal kingdom, including its king, the House Fly (Musca maledicta). The father of Zoology was Aristotle, as is universally conceded, but the name of its mother has not come down to us. Two of the science's most illustrious expounders were Buffon and Oliver Goldsmith, from both of whom we learn (L'Histoire generale des animaux and A History of Animated Nature) that the domestic cow sheds its horn every two years.

The question is, how much of that is the "rearmost locution"? My guess would be all of it. If we can agree I'll send in the postcard (if it's not too late)

ETA: I've gone ahead and written all of it on a postcard. I also learned how little I actually write now. My hand cramped up twice getting all of that down. I'll mail it in on the way home from work.

That's "denotation" not "detonation"

My guess would be the word. I read the request as the "last citation", as in the last word (locution) blessed with an entry (denotation). Therefore my vote goes to zoology. But i'm not submitting.

Break out the dictionaries, kids. I got a package.

It's going to take a lot of careful unwrapping, so I'll photograph as I go and post the pictures soon.

(And there appear to be LOTS of puzzles)

Crud, and I was going to send a letter, too. Maybe I still should? We'll see when you open the package.
Procrastination isn't a good thing, sometimes.

Based on how many envelopes I'm opening, I'd say I got was intended for everyone (well, at least 8 people).

I'm getting it organized, photographed and scanned, and then I'll post.

OK, here we go.

First a brief explanation:

I received a cardboard USPS envelope with nothing strange about it except the return address only said "tCotSA".

Inside there were eight envelopes. Each looks about like this (don't worry I'll show all of them):

Unfortunately, I forgot to not which order they came in. As you can see, each seems to contain part of a whole phrase. As such, I'll post them in what I believe is the "correct" order. Each was well taped with packing tape.

Upon opening them I found another "envelope" (like the outer envelopes, they were really just well-taped pieces of paper). These were sealed with grey duct tape. They look like this (again, I'll show them all):

Inside of THESE, were what looked like folded up wads of paper:

Of course.... they aren't quite.

Ok, here is each envelope in a separate post.
