[RABBITHOLE] Ocular Effect

I'm sure everyone had seen what is known about this site from ARGN but to recap: www.oculareffect.com contains a mysterious spiraling device and digital timer counting down to 20:00 Monday July 17 (GMT -7). The sight will redirect to www.00112358.net which displays the same thing. The first site shows as being registered to Disney though the second one does not.

Untill the countdown runs out there is no telling what all this means, however, if I may indulge in some personal spec. *ahem* 00112358 is the begining of the much overused Fibinocci sequence. The spiraling clock device exhibits the behavior of a Fibinocci spiral. Also this website was discovered not long after the premier of Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest. For the three of you who haven't seen the film all I will say is it ends in a terrible cliffhanger. Is this perhaps a Disney run ARG to keep us sedated untill the third movie? Also in the previews to PotC:DMC there is a spot for a Transformers movie coming out. Maybe this will be a marketing campaign for that film.

That's all I have for now. See ya'll on monday Wink

EDIT: Retagged. --Phaedra

Aww, man! I was just a tad too late to post! Ah well. Anyway, at this moment (and for the last hour) only the second link (http://00112358.net/indexflash.html) works for me. The first (http://www.oculareffect.comp) is unable to be displayed.

Also, the obligatory WHOIS info on both (from the links at the ARGn article):

Finally, the 112358 part is definitely the Fibbonaci sequence, but I don't believe those zeroes belong if that is the case. If you start the Fibbonaci sequence with two zreoes, you'll always have zeroes.

The Fibinocci sequence technically starts with an infinite amount of zeros. In an obscure mathematical effect an infinite aomunt of zeros will add to one, much like an infinite amount of ones multiply to e. This is rarely shown however, and when it is represented it is done with only two of the many 0s.

Other inputs on this:
When the adress of 00112358.net is googled, it only returns itself, which is titled "ReGenisis - Flash detection". Not sure if that is useful information, or just asking for trout, but I thought I should throw it out.
The same search has given me this http://forums.sfxgaming.net/viewtopic.php?p=68765&sid=853ee86677a201ec43e7a2f5c360b8cc
There is record of the clock existing as far back as the 3rd of july.
Incidentally, this release coincides with the predicted release of ReGenisis season 2.

Googling "Ocular Effect" returns a Google ad linking to Fallen, a new TV series on ABC Family.

Fallen? So it's not the garfield arg? Or ILB2?

Win some lose some I guess.

Yet another count down with no content. Wonder if they'll get a million hits for it.

Reverse IP shows a couple other sites, I guess they could link in with the premise of fallen.

Confused Done a lot of math, but this is new to me. Got a linky to a discussion of such effects?

The Ocular Effect - "The more eyeballs that see it, the more likely it is that someone will see something that no one saw before." - Tom Arriola

i think i'll stick around this week to see what this is all about.

Created a room for the hell of it, #oculareffect. We won't know anything until either the site changes, or we hit monday night and... well, the site changes.

Thanks. But I was specifically referring to DrumMajor's contention that the sum of an infinity of 0's = 1 and the product of an infinity of 1's = e. Which sounds like one of those divide by zero logic errors proving 1 = 2, etc.

The value of e is calculated as follows: Limit as N goes to infinity of (1+(1/n))^n
This simplifies to (1+(0))^infinite.

On Occular effect info, wasn't the web site adress shown in the "Fallen" trailer that precedes Pirates?

Yeah, I can't wait to see that one explained too (the 0^infinity = 1 thing).

Though, if it was explained, the

statement still seems flawed, since then it would look like 0, 0, 1, 2, 3... (basically implying that 0, 0 = 1, then there is the... er, "normal" 1, 2, etc.). But... it's not written like that, is it? It's usually either 0, 1, 1, 2, 3... or just 1, 1, 2, 3... Nor have I ever seen it written as 0, 0, 0, 1, 2, 3... either *head splodes*
