[OOG] Minnesota Metallurgy This was a correspondence with a guy from minnesota metallurgy
attached is his "proof"
I need access to the Hanso Foundation Network. A user name and password.
Henry should have had this information somewhere in relation to his work for
Minnesota Metallurgy.
My proof: A message written by Henry and a photo of his license is attached.
" Jennifer,
Well you were right. Crossing the Pacific isn't easy.
I owe you a beer. I'm hiking to one of the beaches to start a
signal fire, but if you're reading this, I guess I didn't make it.
I'm sorry,
I love you Jenny,
always have, always will.
Yours, Henry"

Good to see you jumping in on Lost! This is shaping up to be a fun one... AoTH was the first ARG I really got sucked in to and devoted serious time too, this one may be the second.. for now I'm just overloaded with information from the Hanso site.

This is part of an older LOST game when the first series came out I believe.

stay on point www.thewidmoregroup.com (Created 08-apr-2006) redirects to
www.minnesotametallurgy.com (Created 14-apr-2006)
Both of these are FAN-made sites. They are OOG (out of game).
Enjoy them for what they are, but please do not link them to The Lost Experience until the Hanso site or other in-game assets do so directly .
Also
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the fake Henry Gale said he was from Minnesota, but his company mined non-metallic minerals, and thus wouldn't be working for a metallurgy firm.
Please keep the Hanso Foundation thread only about the HansoFoundation.org website.

Okay, I have a question. I've never used whois before because everyone else is so quick, but I was on a lost forum just now and someone is convinced that the metallurgy site is ingame (which I don't believe). They say that their proof is that the who is points to an ABC address. Anyway, my point (yes I have one) is that when I looked it up I didn't get the same address that this other person did, until I realized that it said I was using a 14 day old cached answer. Here is the info that you get with the "fresh results":

So, my question is... what's going on here? Is the creator of this site just trying to screw with people's heads? Sorry for asking such a dumb question.

Not a dumb question (just part of the Intro to ARGs 101 class that hasn't been offered this semester). Basically, the answer is "yes". Longer answer is that when any average person registers a website domain name, they fill in their contact info honestly, because they want fans or customers to be able to find them -- but it is not required! We have seen plenty of fake information in domain registries, although it's fairly risky if someone uses official-looking ABC corporate information without their knowledge or permission.
created: 15-Apr-2006
Another suspicious hint is that this domain was registered right after an episode of Lost aired which mentioned this Minnesota mining company (which, btw, doesn't even mine metals). If you're not current with Season 2, there is no reason for this to have raised a warning flag for you.
nserver: ns48.1and1.com
Third weak link in the chain is the hosting company. It's not the kind of server farm being used by ABC, Disney, or other agencies who produced the previous official websites for the TV show tie-ins.
Overall, it's just not consistent with what we would expect from a major corporate ARG. There is still a slight possibility that they are hiding their tracks, but doubtful.
