NYC operation The NYC operation is coming together.
It looks likely to be an event at a wrap party for some films Audi commissioned. It will be held at the Audi showroom on Park Avenue where the original break-in occured.
At the moment Rose, Jason(?) and I are in.
More info as it comes, though there may be some need for operational secrecy.

000194 MADAME,
the car that you are looking for if I am right will be brilliant red with black leather and have a black roof due to the open sky system it will have a manual shift and have a sport package but the most unusual thing that I can tell is that it dosent have the nav system which would give you the sd card it only has the sound package so this may be some kind of a trap there isnt anywhere to put an sd card in the car. maybe I am wrong and maybe i take it too seriously but perhaps ask teh other retrievers if they were given the cards or if they ejected one from the back of the nav system.

minor update. Nisha has some people fFor the NY gig. no details on who, but she's really pissed off at Ian. He's probably not really happy with her either, of course.

How do you know which car it's going to be? Have you been by the dealership? It is entirely possible that they are bringing in the car we need special - after all, the Atlanta car wasn't 'delivered' until the day of the heist (or so we were told at least). It almost makes more sense that the car hasn't been delivered yet - that way, there won't be any break in the story if someone scopes out the scene before hand. It'd be too easy to go "Yes, I was in the dealership earlier, got into the car and there was no sd card ". I'm sure Nisha will let them know exactly what car they need to scope out on Wednesday.
Btw, if anyone can score an extra pin, I lost mine :(:(:( The backing fell off (which I found) and then later the pin (which I didn't). I'm willing to pay in either cash or cookies for a replacement.

I love it when a plan comes together. I have spoken to Retriever Jason, who sounds like he will be a great deal of fun to have along. And, I just spoke to Retriever Madam O'Brien who has arrived in New York. We plan to meet together for a bit before we have to meet Nisha.
Still don't know our assignments yet. but, yay anyway.

I work sorta close to there, I passed by briefly around 6pm and took a few crappy camera phone pics (posted below).
There are 2 cars, a red A3 outside on the sidewalk, and a red car (I assume an A3) inside.
Lots of setting up going on, there's a DJ inside too (although it didn't appear to be our own Will Star).
Dunno if this'll be useful as the op has technically started by now, mostly posting for posterity

Meet-up in NYC Rose, Jason and I have met-up in NYC.
We're making plans in a nearby Starbucks - really just trying to not get overexcited.
We're going to meet Nisha in a few minutes.
Thanks for the pictures bagsbee.

not so easy We did it, or rather Nisha did it, but it wasn't an easy task. We were a film crew. I was suppose to be the producer, which was ok until things fell apart, Jason was the announcer, who did a good job having to ad lib things while filming in front of a Park Avenue sidewalk, and Madamo, who was a great cameraman. This would have worked perfectly if we had been able to find the card in a reasonable time. Alas, that was not to be.
We had no trouble getting the very nice and cooperative security guard, Jose, to open the car for us, but madamo and jason and I couldn't find the card. We looked everywhere, the trunk and even in the engine, which was pretty hilarious. madamo got footage of everything. When we were searching the car, the guys abandoned all pretense of filming, which was also hilarious. We were basically sitting in the car, frantically pulling up everything, reaching under the seats, which were lowered, opening ashtrays, etc. It must have looked like a Marx brothers movie! madamo's view was that we should get away with what we could until they stopped us. (We did find a sticker from the radio, with a serial number, which I hope Audi doesn't need as I have it in my handbag.)
It was quite a scene. As we couldn't find the card, Nisha had to sneak in, get the card (which was hidden under the front seat in an odd place) and get out in front of 8 security guards. Two of these guys were very physically imposing, at least to me, and the rest of them were no slouches.
We were supposed to keep filming with the camera set up in front of the car and I was supposed to get the security guard to have his back to the car. Getting a good security guard to have his back to what he is guarding is an almost impossible task! I ended up having him try to show me stuff with the Treos, and physically blocking his view to the car, he was nice about it. But to do this, I had to position myself in a way that I couldn't keep my eyes on the guys filming and watch for Nisha's approach. We were following the plan well. Then, the guys were filming but, just as Nisha came around the corner, for some reason, mostly because Jason had to constantly ad lib, they stopped. So Nisha had to call and "say what is happening? You aren't doing what you were supposed to." So they started again. Geez, this isn't easy.
I was afraid that Nisha would be caught because of us. I was trying very hard to think of what to do if the security guards stopped her. I'm glad they didn't because I didn't have a plan at all. My only idea was to tell them that she was part my crew. That we always did some kind of a stunt that we put in our films. The joke being that the announcer is so oblivous that he talks away and doesn't notice her or something. Maybe that would have worked...
I would have done so if the security guard said anything to me. But I wasn't going to volunteer any information. I am certain they saw her, but knew - OOG - not to interfere. Thank you again Jose.
Once she finished, she called and told us to leave fast, which was obviously what we should have done. But, I didn't want to just drop everything and leave as soon as she left. I wanted to give her time to get back to the car and drive away if anyone was chasing her. Like I said, it isn't easy to know the best thing to do.
We did our best. But I don't think any of us are going to become CIA recruits based on this episode!!!
----
The security guards, especially Jose, had to be in on this and they very kindly played along with our efforts to distract them. Thank you Jose, I am sorry I didn't have the chance to give you a tip for helping us out. He is a good security guard and a nice guy too. I don't think he had the heart to be mean to me about this.
Nisha is very gorgeous and smart and fearless. She is everything that anyone has said about her and more. Ian should work his butt off to keep her. He is a bigger idiot than I thought if he doesn't keep this relationship together. I sent her an email thanking her and telling her I can understand how she would inspire Virgil to come back into the world from his depressed exile. She is amazing and if you get a chance to work with her you should.
----
I suggest that if they have more events like this again, the people involved go to a dealership, sit in a car and understand all about how it works. Not just the SD card spot, but every last bit of it. We could have been in and out in a very few minutes had we known where to look. And, in that case, our cover would have worked perfectly. I had been in the car before, but didn't think about raising and lowering the seat.
Also, it can be challenging to pay attention to the scene around you; think through what you should do in real time based on a constantly changing scenario; keep tabs on the security guards; direct people; and, talk to Nisha at the same time. I am not sure how to make that easier for people in future events.
At least we got the card and now everyone can work on the puzzles.

Congrats everyone! It sounds like you did quite well under pressure!! I also need to add that I'm horribly jealous of everyone who has gotten to participate so far, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there'll be some sort of event in Boston....

op This was fun and you should participate if you can. The live interaction is great if a bit trying on the nerves and adrenaline.
I am waiting for madam o'brien to post his comments. Jason has had trouble accessing the forums and is going to email someone to get that fixed.

Close, but no cigar. There is a great video of them opening up the Nav computer and pointing out that the card is not inside of it.
Btw, you never answered my questions about how you "knew" which car it was going to be. I'm really curious as to why you thought the car wasn't going to have a Nav system and why this would turn out to be a trap?

the vin off of the sd3 card showed a vin that according to audi dosent have a nav system. it really is easy. it shows the car to be registered as an sold audi coorporate vehicle. give me a few minutes and ill tell you what the new 750014 car looks like and where it is hopefully but if the car that they got into was the same one as the one with the vin from sd3 then it didnt come with a nav system i dont care what it shows on the videos.
wait a minute the new vin number has two too many digits hmm.. curveball
